You're fine. You didn't know and I was the one that messed up. It's probably the main part of a list of things I'm dealing with. I've reached the point where I'm considering going to the Mayo Clinic after all the local doctors I've dealt with.
I don't think you're that far off actually.
Starting around the 6th minute, the conversation on realignment begins.
The context offers this...BYU wants to join a league so they can compete against the best. "Autonomy is the goal." That is Holmoe's goal. In fact, he doesn't completely dismiss the idea of joining a G5. Nonetheless, he says he wants to play against the best every week in every sport(specifically mentions football) so obviously they want the P5.
"We haven't sat around and waited to see what will happen. We have some possibilities, and some veins we can take, but we have to see which of those veins say 'do not pass.'"
"We'll push it."
The question at hand was in relation to the windows of opportunity for BYU to join a league. What creates those windows...the CFP, the TV contracts, or something else? That is essentially the question Holmoe answers.
The short answer from Holmoe is that individual conferences have individual contracts and that determines the windows.
"You try to read between the lines and see what that(any) conference needs." That's in the context of determining what that individual league wants and basically how you approach them.
"What's this conference going to do and do we have a chance?"
"They(any P5) plays their cards close to the vest. You don't know what they want to do, but you look at the dates and see when they sign their contracts."
He then refers to the CFP going to 12 and how that will cause schools(he didn't specifically say leagues although he might have meant that) to ask the question..."what's in it for us?"
All in all, Holmoe was in the process of talking about what creates those windows and what happens as they're closing. He does switch gears a bit and he was talking about the SEC maybe getting 4 teams in the CFP, as opposed to adding 4 schools, but the context was that the SEC would be working to get stronger. "Everybody(every league) should be working to get stronger." He made that statement in the context of realignment. The CFP proposal would present opportunities for that is essentially what he was saying. "The SEC will not get weaker, they'll get stronger."
Essentially, he seems to think some form of realignment will take place. Odds are he thinks maybe the SEC(or Big Ten) adds someone and that starts dominoes falling that could lead to BYU in a Power league. That would be my long story short take.
Also Alanda, I wish you well. Hopefully your health improves soon.
