RE: Big Ten/ACC FOOTBALL Challenge?
I would want Miami. There's bad blood between Maryland and Miami dating back to the 1980s.

I don't know how they came up with those match ups but I think the Big Ten would dominate but not sweep.

The ACC would not fare well if this happened

Well at least one ACCBBS member said otherwise but of course that's why different conference boards exist:)

RE: Big Ten/ACC FOOTBALL Challenge?
Speaking of ACC-Big Ten match ups, anyone know why Ohio St agreed to a home and home with Boston College? OOC home and homes are typically reserved for historically prominent programs—Texas, USC, Oregon, Oklahoma, types. Is this some hold over from the Matt Ryan era of BC football when the eagles were good?

Rutgers was proactive and plays Syracuse, BC or VT every year until 2028.

Maybe the game "at" Boston College will be a neutral site game in Fenway or something. I don't know.

Agree.

I would consider viewership, institutional similarity, and geography for the first year of this sort of challenge:

Illinois vs Georgia Tech > These schools could be so much better than they are.
Indiana vs Louisville > State border and basketball powers.
Iowa vs North Carolina St > Solid matchup.
Maryland vs Virginia > Old rivalry.
Michigan vs Florida St > Brand names, underperformed compared to expectations in recent years.
Michigan St vs North Carolina > Basketball powers.
Minnesota vs Syracuse > Decent matchup.
Nebraska vs Miami > Good history of great matchups.
Northwestern vs Duke > Academic powers.
Ohio St vs Clemson > Great matchup.
Penn St vs Pittsburgh > In-state rivalry.
Purdue vs Wake Forest > Decent matchup.
Rutgers vs Boston College > Decent matchup, old conference mates.
Wisconsin vs Virginia Tech > Solid matchup.

Originally supposed to be played 2020 & 21, now pushed back to the 2030"s.

Similar to a post a did on B1G/ACC challenge, I’ll post my matchups:

Illinois vs Missouri > Border rivals and always disappoint me in basketball.
Indiana vs Kentucky > Historical basketball programs.
Iowa vs Auburn > Decent matchup.
Maryland vs South Carolina > Okay matchup and former ACC foes.
Michigan vs Texas A&M > Big names; both will win another national championship at some point…right?
Michigan St vs LSU > Decent match-up and formerly Saban-run.
Minnesota vs Mississippi > Decent matchup; interesting coaching matchup.
Nebraska vs Tennessee > Once fear-inducing programs.
Northwestern vs Vanderbilt > Academic powers.
Ohio St vs Alabama > Annual national championship contenders.
Penn St vs Georgia > Good matchup, big names, titles in the 80s.
Purdue vs Mississippi St > Decent matchup.
Rutgers vs Arkansas > Programs spent much of the last decade in the pits but have shown signs of life.
Wisconsin vs Florida > Good matchup, I always have high expectations of these programs.

RE: Big Ten/ACC FOOTBALL Challenge?
Not sure I like this idea. The Eastern teams (Maryland, Rutgers, and Penn State) could and should have rivalries with the WVU and the northernish schools in the ACC.
So The Cuse, Boston College, Pittsburgh, WVU, Virginia, and VA Tech should make their way on to each other's schedules.
The Western schools could, should be forming alliances with the Old Big 8.
The Southernmost schools of Illinois, Purdue, Indiana, and Ohio State could try to start something with the SEC but apart from Kentucky and Missouri I see no natural rivals.
You can see the theme I have, I'm all about those natural rivals or schools with good proximity. Those are naturally exciting now, 50 years ago, and 50 years from now. Save the "who's the best conference" chatter for the bowl season. I say that the non-conference schedule should be reserved for regional rivals that conference expansion has eliminated.

The ACC/Big Ten Challenge works in men's basketball and has for over 20 years because the season is a lot longer and there is room for it (as well as the less publicized Gavitt Games and the fact that there are fewer games because the Big East only has 11 teams). You only have room for three non conference games in football and as BigRonBuckeye said regional rivals have to be accommodated and most Big 10 schools want/need seven home games a year as well.

So I can't see any two conferences ever agreeing to a conference vs. conference football challenge. The closest might be ACC vs. SEC because they only play eight conference games and they already have four rivalry games already built in they can just put into their challenge (although who wouldn't want to see Alabama vs. Clemson as well as South Carolina vs. Clemson?) Yeah the Big Ten can give up one conference game to start a challenge with another conference. Do we really want to? I'm sure most of the Big Ten would say no. They wanted a Big 10 vs. Pac 12 conference challenge series. It failed and rightfully so. Oregon-Ohio State and Washington-Michigan are worth seeing. Does anyone in the Big 10 want to go to Wazzu? Didn't think so.
