I think adding quality teams like Marshall, USM, UAB, or La Tech could really raise the SBC's standing.
If the AAC was to pull this move then they create a monster. I’m not sure any moves could pull any of the other G5 conferences close to them at that point. The best option would be the SBC pulling an additional power move as mentioned above and would instantly create a best of the rest conference.
At that point you are at 14 teams though, and you DO NOT want that. It may work for the AAC but no so much for the rest of us.
It would create a monster for sure. But it'll be good for the SBC for 2 reasons;
1. SBC now firmly 2nd G5 conference. 2019 and 2020 showed the SBC can create serious noise. Yes, we still need a breakthrough, and yes, we still need a slipup of AAC teams in order to get NY6, but the perception of the league 10x waht it was even 2018
2. There is a lot of risk in trying to organize a league that stretches from San Diego to Philly and Boise to Tampa. Costs could skyrocket and maybe they become overextended and competitive level begins to suffer.
I think the best thing for SBC to do is stay together and wait for the right opportunity. It might require the non football schools to get another conference invite, or even Texas State to CUSA

I'm in favor of adding Marshall and UAB now. If there was a good reason to go to 14 then USM would be next in line. After that who knows?

We aren’t trying to kick you guys out, just that would understand your desire to be with your Texas brothers and sisters. You guys are the only school that it would make sense to make that jump away from the SBC that doesn’t include the AAC.

I agree with you on USM, but if we are doing a bit of projecting who will be a asset under this circumstance, im leaning UTSA over tech. plus it helps balance out our Texas footprint as a bonus. I also think a hard look at FAU should be taken. The Sun Belt would have 1 chance to fight back before the AAC locked up that spot. once voters pencil them in as far superior, it will be hell, to get them to change their minds.
Why, UTSA still hasn't done crap since the become IA and a CUSA school. This last year they had 3 of the top 5 scorers in CUSA basketball and still only won 15 games and was 9-7 in conference and 4th in the West. They have made 2 bowl games, losing both.
LA Tech has been solid in most everything Winning CUSA in basketball twice. They had also won 6 straight bowl games before last year.
