Woof. This reads much more like a fan-styled "here's an idea that would be cool" than "here's something that is being considered."

Much ado about nothing.

Maybe he was serious at first, but jumped the gun and released it too early, and now released this article quickly (without proofreading it obviously), to cover his tracks?

Maybe he needs to stop trying to push out articles after "Happy Hour". 07-coffee3

I tend to agree with you. The article reads as if it was once something more and was edited down. There is literally nothing in the article that gives it substance. The one piece of info that is interesting to me is that he does list CSU with BSU and SDSU. No one has been talking about CSU being part of the equation, but he says,"Heres a plan" and then lists them. There is no hedging his bets by listing possible candidates, but lists them as if that is the decision.
Then again I could be reading too much into things, but thats what I see for now.

True but if the AAC is going west with 14 and BYU osmotic in picture those are the logical three. Maybe it’s a side message to BYU

I don't think so.

First sentence: "Mike Aresco knows how to work a room and a sport as well everyone"

I think the dude sets up a bunch of garbage articles on the one day a week that he works, and sets them up to auto-publish ~daily. Maybe he accidentally had a two-fer that day and had to pull it before re-posting the next.

Anything that had any actual meat would have been proof-read, at least once, even a self-check. This article is about as thought out as a 3am tweet.

The internet is killing journalism.

RE: ***Official AAC Realignment Thread***
I’m perplexed about all this. The Colorado St piece is particularly odd but this isn’t the first time I’ve heard that Navy wants to block Air Force.

I think Mark definitely has his divisions off. That 14 team line up would likely be split like this:

East: Temple, ECU, USF, UCF, Cincinnati, Memphis, Tulane

West: Wich St/Navy, Tulsa, SMU, Houston, Colorado St, Boise St, San Diego St

This piece also doesn’t read like your typical off season realignment babbling because I’d expect to see BYU and AFA thrown in there but they aren’t. Their omission seems to indicate that the writer knows they aren’t currently in the picture.

Another rumor I started a year ago on the MWC Board got picked up by another source. Cute. This one actually had legs about 6 months ago. Guess I'll be making a phone call to see if something's up. Don't sleep on this guy's. Just saying....

The one thing that makes me wonder if something might be up is the fact that Mike Aresco decided to drop the bombshell that the AAC "might" "possibly" "maybe" "conceivably" "eventually" consider an expansion to a specific number - - 14 schools.

That was extremely unusual and atypical, coming from Aresco, because he has tended to play his cards extremely close to the vest through the years.

Thus, it seemed like he was either intentionally telegraphing something when he made that statement or thought that it was important to prepare the AAC fan base for a possible expansion announcement, so that people wouldn't complain that they were completely blind-sided or sand-bagged if there should be such an announcement.

It could also be that there is no substance to it, and that his sudden decision to start talking about something that has been strictly off-limits for years had no meaning or significance whatsoever.

Also, is it really edited if THAT was the finished product, including referring to the conference as the ACC four different times in the article?

I didn’t say it did, but he has a lot of inside information so the fact that he thinks it might be true is something. I still think there’s probably some legs to this rumor, and it’s at least being discussed, even if nothing more.

Not sure how any of that is relevant to what I said, considering that article has nothing to do with his website?

Anyways yeah that was a terrible editing job, but it’s still interesting that the writer (who is apparently very credible) originally said that it WAS Aresco’s plan, and then quickly changed the wording of it. It leads me to believe he maybe leaked it a bit too soon and is now covering his tracks.

Nope. Full invite. That was the original plan anyway. Buy Aresco needs to convince a few of the smaller AAC teams to agree to it. That was the hold up last time. Again, this story was from a last summer. I wrote up the whole summary on the MWC Board. ESPN was on board and the deal was gonna be restructured.

You're right - I'm just not a Brandon fan at all. Dude likes to come across as a media member when it's convenient for him, but he's actually just a huge fan that crosses the line quite often. Zero objectivity. I'll leave it there rather than let it derail the thread.

I also have a suspicion that you're right about Blaudschun here. I think he probably knows more, which prompted him to write whatever he wrote the first time. Then for whatever reason (my suspicion is that somebody close to Aresco asked him to take it down), he pulled it. But there were enough people who must have seen it when he posted it (and you could still find a hint of it via a Google search) that he also knew he couldn't act like it didn't exist, so he quickly (and REALLY SLOPPILY) revised it to make it look more like a proposal than anything else.

Overall, this was a great find. I had serious doubts about whether this was anything more than fan fodder. Now I think somebody in the AAC offices is at least exploring this as an option. Doesn't remotely mean it'll happen, but it's past the level of pure internet wild speculation in my opinion.

Yeah that’s basically what I was thinking, we’ll know pretty soon if it really was an early leak or just a proposal. If it was Tuxedo Yoda or another one of those realignment nuts, I would just roll my eyes and keep scrolling, but it seems at least somewhat legit.

To my Boise/SDSU brothers, why is it radio silence on this on the MWC board? You guys have discussed other Boise/SDSU AAC realignment rumors there. Just odd to me it isn't at least being discussed a little.

That board has been dying a slow death. Its weird that this news has generated zero buzz on the MW board. Perhaps people are resigned to it being a done deal.
There has been enough smoke over the past few months about BSU & SDSU coming to the AAC that there has to be earnest discussions going on. Also, it would have to be for all sports or SDSU would not be interested. I am not stoked on CSU being discussed due to elevation, but they are a solid academic institution, so they make up for what BSU lacks.
