RE: 2021 Football TV Schedule
Montgomery tried to get AState and UAB to do the kickoff thing. Money wasn’t there without a return game though I wish it had worked out. Not a bad trip.

Added the CUSA games.

Yep. This is what I was asking about earlier. The only advantage into the CUSA deal is that we play all of our home games on Saturday. Count me in as one that would rather play on Thursday for actual TV time.

Does playing that many weeknight games have an effect on your fanbase? I notice App State for example, has to play Louisiana and Coastal on a Tuesday/Wednesday. It’s great to get the tv time, but do you feel the trade off is worth it?

Personally, I think it is worth it, but I would worry over time it would take a toll on the fanbase and start seeing attendance issues. I don’t guess there is a good option for us G5er’s. Either play mid week on tv or play on the weekends buried on some off channel or streaming service.

I agree with you that TV exposure is great. It sucks to have so many home games on weeknights, but it should create a demand for tickets for those limited Saturday games. It all comes down to intent. If Joe-fan has the ability to go, and the desire to go, they will show up. I get that our Sat schedule isn’t sexy, but if being on the mountain on a Saturday is that awesome of an experience, then why not go when the opportunity arises?

I personally don't like it especially after a year away from the stadium. Our home schedule is not that sexy to begin with and you take our best home game App St and put it on a week day not a great idea. I would guess that we would rank pretty low in attendance this year with three home Saturday games. Oh I can't complain or else I must be a causal fan even though I have tickets in three sports. I hope the Cajun Mafia don't come after me.

You generally cant get people to anything at noon Saturday around here. Its a holiday weekend, will likely be hot as hades and there a billion other things to do in Atlanta on a weekend like that. But its on ESPNU so there is that.

This just reminded me that attendance smack will probably be back in full effect this year. I guess all will be right with the world...03-lmfao

Seems like someone would start experimenting with G5 "kickoff classic" type games at some point. Surely matching a couple of good-traveling, consistently ranked programs would be a great way for some slightly smaller venues to have a big event at the start of the season and maybe drum up some extra eyes on the teams.

ECU and App are playing in Charlotte in the Duke Mayo kickoff on ESPNU

Ah...I guess I hadn't paid attention to that setup. Could be a nice model to follow.

The blessing and the curse. Great for the old loyal and local fans that want to go to a game, but if your not being talked about in the world at large, you never grow you fan base for the future.

RE: 2021 Football TV Schedule
If you can win a majority of your OOC the Thursday/Friday games become a gold mine for media exposure. They're mainly in the middle to late middle of the season. If a SBC team is ranked during their week night game then eyeballs will be there. AP voters and CFP voters will be watching. Playing at 3:30 on a Saturday ranked 20-25 will be lost in the shuffle, comparably to Thursday.

What ticks me off, is playing a midweek game on ESPU. That has no trade off value. It should never be done in my book. ESPNU should be saturdays only.
If ESPN wants midweek, they should only be played on ESPN or ESPN2

I agree. However the CCU ESPNU game (granted it was a Saturday game) drew the highest rated ESPNU game in the last 10 years. ESPNU does have value, but I do with the Thursday games were on ESPN/2.

The attached schedule was posted on our local board and was created by an LSU fan, Tom Sylvest, a very talented cartoonist, who does schedules for all Louisiana schools every year about this time. I should also note his website is RigerToons.org.

Why does Liberty have a seagull mascot? Shouldnt it just be a like a diploma in the fireplace?

Montgomery has UAB vs. Jacksonville State on Sept. 1, Alabama State vs. Miles College on Sept. 4 and the Red Tail Classic with Fort Valley State on Sept. 5. Nice few days for football in Montgomery!
