Very good article. There are dozens of very good points.
I'll repeat a general view, from 30,000 feet: Only the strong will survive. Flagship universities, Ivys, prestigious universities (including say Howard, Spellman, etc. among HBCUs), etc. will all be fine. They have more qualified applicants then they can admit.
Where the problems will be is with liberal arts colleges and colleges which are essentially indistinguishable. Lot of 'directionals' are essentially indistinguishable from their peers. W. Ky vs E. Ky. vs M. TN. St. Or Akron vs. Kent State.. two similar schools a short drive apart.
Will CMU/EMU/Oakland/WMU all compete for the same shrinking number of MI students? How does Wayne State fit into the mix (as a research I institution but in the middle of Detroit, which may not appeal to all).
As far as these schools, assuming relatively similar academic offerings. Does the student want to be educated in the Northern Detroit suburbs? Near Ann Arbor just beyond Wayne County? Western part of the state? or the mid-Michigan area? Or a QLine ride from downtown Detroit?
