RE: CAA Tournament
From New England Baseball Journal...

Walk it off to a title

Playing its third consecutive elimination game, Northeastern won the Colonial Athletic Association title for the first time in the most dramatic fashion on Sunday. Redshirt sophomore center fielder Ben Malgeri (Stratham, N.H.) hit a game-tying home run in the ninth inning and freshman second baseman Max Viera hit a walk-off shot in the 10th, lifting the Huskies to an 11-10 win over tournament host and second-seeded UNCW.

Malgeri slugged his way to Most Outstanding Player honors, going 10 for 23 with five homers, seven runs scored and nine RBIs over the five games. The last two of the Huskies’ four long balls in the clincher came off of CAA Pitcher of the Year Landen Roupp, who struck out nine and allowed just two hits — the aforementioned homers — over the last 3 ⅔ innings out of the bullpen.

Three-time CAA Coach of the Year Mike Glavine’s club has clinched an NCAA berth for the second time in three years after using seven pitchers to piece together the final victory. Senior Brian Rodriguez pitched two scoreless innings to earn the victory. CAA Co-Rookie of the Year Cam Schlittler (Walpole, Mass.) worked the first 2 ⅓ frames, starting after throwing 101 pitches over eight innings of three-run ball in a 10-3 win over Charleston on Thursday to open the tournament.

Sophomore right fielder Jared Dupere (Amesbury, Mass.) set a new school record with his 21st home run of the season and fourth of the tournament in the first inning, while junior first baseman Ian Fair (Walpole, Mass.) hit a two-run double in the third that extended his on-base streak to 25 games and helped him earn a third consecutive All-Tournament Team honor.

The Huskies, who improved to 36-10 with their closest of four tournament victories, entered Sunday with the nation’s fourth-best win percentage this season. Fairfield currently owns the best mark in NCAA history (.925) with its 37-3 record, but it has to wait to see whether or not its season will continue into regionals after losing the MAAC championship.
