Yeah, I enjoyed watching Birdsong sling it. But he was our second best QB. And he left here to start at Marshall. These are the facts.

Wasn’t he the backup because of an FBS transfer coming in? Aka, in the future that same transfer probably goes to another FBS school instead of JMU.

Previously, a lot transferred down to FCS so they could be eligible immediately. Now they will have the option to transfer to another FBS school and be immediately eligible.

There's been a decent amount of discussion about that here. What some others have said that I'd say makes sense is that it probably won't hurt FCS programs like JMU so much as it might widen the gap between the good programs and everyone else whether it's a good FCS program, good G5, or good P5. There might be more that'll go from P5 to G5 instead of an FCS like JMU compared to before, but it's also going to be easier for good players at other FCS schools to transfer to a better FCS school like JMU. Like this year we've got transfers coming from VMI, Towson, Ohio State, Army, and Eastern Michigan. Still got a few FBS guys but also a couple FCS guys.

Aside from that, a lot of people really overblow how much JMU benefits from FBS transfers. Most of our best players and guys that have gone on to the NFL have been recruited to JMU out of HS.

That’s a really good point. I hadn’t really thought about that. JMU and NDSU are capable of just getting the best FCS transfers every year.

JMU getting the "barely missed a 1a offer" players then further poaching the good players on other fcs teams with much smaller budgets that don't have 1a facilities is sad.

How long is that sustainable?

The business model is a failure.

Subsidizing D2 sports with the highest student fees in the country.

Static revenue as regional branded sports will not attract national corporate sponsorships nor meaningful alumni support.

In fact, revenue is declining, as will interest with the status quo.

“D2 sports.” Was that the D2 WCWS we just watched? Or did we win the D2 women’s lacrosse championship a couple of years ago? Or D2 field hockey championship back in ‘94?

Tell me one D2 sport that JMU sponsors.

Are we even allowed to sponsor D2 sports? I believe you can move up a classification (Johns Hopkins in Lacrosse, all those MN schools in hockey) but I'm almost positive we can't have a varsity sponsored sport in D2.

That's like saying an A- is an A with an asterisk.
It's still an A.

Funny... you actually expect him to reply to your reasonable question.
The problem is he made an asinine statement. When has he ever corrected one?
Let me save you time... he hasn't. He may be one of us, be he's a troll.
There's quite a few on here that have met him in person and say he's a good guy. Well, guess what? On the internet he's an ass. I don't have any respect for that.

Since the only sport JMU plays in your mind is football, then yes, with an asterisk. If you had been paying attention just a couple weeks ago, you would have seen our softball team run rampant through the best of the best of the D1 Softball world. No asterisk required

I don’t think anyone ever disputed that. And then he lost the job to a true freshman.

Yup. Litton was destined to start. JMU’s backup earning the Marshall starting job over him was curious.

That was another famous ”Docscision”. Birdsong had experience under his belt, so he went that direction. We would’ve had Frohnapfel, but he transferred to UMASS. Our qb situation was not good
