Democrat Has MELTDOWN After GOP Exposes Dems on Election Integrity
Quote:The lieutenant governor of North Carolina, the first black man to hold that office, excoriated arguments from Democrats that compare voter integrity measures such as the new law passed in Georgia to racist voter suppression laws of the Jim Crow south.
POLL: What scares you the most?
On Thursday, Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson ® testified at a hearing in the House of Representatives titled, "Oversight of the Voting Rights Act: The Evolving Landscape of Voting Discrimination." In his opening remarks, he said it was "insane" and "insulting" for anyone to compare the voter ID laws passed in Georgia and other states to Jim Crow laws that were used to tyrannize black Americans and keep them from voting.
"My people were put in the belly of ships, bound by chains, and endured the middle passage. My people were whipped, beaten, and sold as property. In Reconstruction and throughout Jim Crow, black people were intimidated, harassed, and even killed to keep them from having a voice in government," Robinson told House lawmakers. "Symbols like chains, nooses, and burnt crosses are not just symbols of death, they are symbols of forced and coerced silence.
"The sacrifices of our ancestors so I could have the opportunity to become the first black lieutenant governor of my state, to see a black man sit in the White House, and for millions of us to be leaders in business, athletics, and culture is incredible," he continued.
Turning to the Georgia law, which Democrats have accused of implementing "Jim Crow in 2021" by suppressing the minority vote, Robinson demanded to know how black voices were being silenced or kept out of the political process.
"How? By fear of a noose or chains? To be fired from work? To be ostracized by their communities? No. A free ID to vote. Let me say that again, a free ID to vote," he said.
He continued:
How absolutely preposterous. Am I to believe that black Americans who have overcome the atrocities of slavery, who were victorious in the civil rights movement, and who now sit in the highest levels of government cannot figure out how to get a free ID to vote?
That we need to be coddled by politicians because they don't think we can figure out how to make our voices heard? Are you kidding me!?
The notion that black people must be protected from a Free ID to vote is not just insane, it's insulting.
Later in the hearing, Robinson made it clear that historically it was the Republican Party that supported voting rights for black Americans and the Democratic Party that supported voter suppression and Jim Crow.
"That history is clear who stood on which side at every turn in history. It is clear, it's not even in dispute," Robinson said. "What we want is integrity, we don't want power. We want integrity."
He also defended Republican-supported voter ID laws as "simple American responsibility" and reminded the Congress that Jim Crow laws "wasn't just a poll tax."
"You stepped outside the line during Jim Crow, you'd find yourself swinging from a tree," he said.
Robinson called voter ID "common sense legislation for the common good."
"To say that somehow poor people, black people can't be involved in that responsibility, again, is insulting," he said.
Quote:Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) angrily erupted during a congressional hearing Thursday after Republican North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, who is African American, accused the Democratic Party of historically being on the wrong side of racial issues while using black people like him as political pawns.
Speaking during a hearing about election integrity and voting rights, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) asked Robinson to specify which political party pushed most heavily for Civil Rights legislation, as well for the constitutional amendments that abolished slavery, naturalized former slaves, and granted citizens the right to vote regardless of race.
“That would be Republicans,” Robinson replied.
“And so, as we sit here today, and as we’re being accused by many of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle of wanting to somehow perpetuate the Jim Crow South, when in fact what we’re trying to do is perpetuate laws that you can believe in, that you’ve so eloquently discussed, do you see any merit in that whatsoever?” Roy asked.
“Absolutely not,” Robinson said before indicating he had something more to add. “You know, when you talk about that history, that history is clear, who stood on which side at every turn in history. It is clear. It’s not even in dispute. And it’s not in dispute now.”
“What we want is integrity,” Robinson continued. “We don’t want power, we want integrity. We want the right thing to be done. We want to encourage citizens to be responsible. We want to have the best election system in the world.”
Robinson went on to claim that third-world countries such as India have less dysfunctional elections than the United States. “It’s time that we modernize our election system in this country and stop playing all these silly games based on race.”
“And please, stop using me, as a black man, as your pawn — and yes, I said it — to push your agenda,” Robinson added, looking toward the Democrats on the dais. “I’m sick of it. It happened a long time ago in this country and I’m tired of seeing that.” Someone then cuts in to inform Robinson that his time has expired.
When Roy attempted to ask Cohen, who was serving as chairman of the hearing, if he could seek unanimous consent to enter a 2006 Senate report on voting rights into the record, the visibly irate Tennessee congressman loudly slammed his gavel repeatedly. In an attempt to get the next witness to speak, he went on to scream into the microphone, which was not turned on at first.
“Maybe in a few minutes, but not right now,” Cohen responded after Roy and another man pressed Cohen to insert the information into the record.
Cohen’s office did not immediately respond to The Daily Wire’s request for comment regarding why he was so upset.
Robinson, who is the Republican lieutenant governor of North Carolina, serves under Democratic Governor Roy Cooper. Because the governor and lieutenant governor are elected separately in the state, the offices are sometimes held by members of different parties. Robinson is popular among North Carolina Republicans, and had been exploring a run for U.S. Senate because of strong polling numbers. He decided against a run earlier this week.
Democrats don't like it when they are outed as the party of historically supporting actual systemic racism. The Chairman beclowned himself with his immature response. Guess the truth hurts.
RE: Democrat Has MELTDOWN After GOP Exposes Dems on Election Integrity
This is particularly risky for Cohen as the white representative of a black district. If you can effectively edit that exchange, you can remove Cohen from office. It might be another Democrat, but it could be the end for him.

I say it all the time to my black friends... the fact that white liberals have the impression that black people are too helpless to get an ID is exactly what racism is. They are straight out saying you are inferior to them and you cannot survive without them holding your hands. It doesnt get more racist than that.

Cohen is a complete and utter embarrassment. As a Tennessean and Memphian I apologize to the nation for making everyone in this country to endure this idiot.

And that right there! Eating KENTUCKY fried chicken when he could be eating Memphis' own Jack Pirtle's or Gus's.
The idiot.
Oh, and by the way, Pirtle's combos come with gravy to dip your fries in. Yum!

Now, on to Cohen's performance. I would be embarrassed as hell to be the one who decided he should chair anything except a 420 party. He made a compete fool of himself yelling into a mic he hadn't even turned on and then as if that wasn't bad enough his reptilian brain must have told him to do something, anything, to draw attention away from the fact that the idiot was yelling into a dead mic so he decides that then would be a great time for an irrational and emotional outburst. "I'll show these idiots, I'll scream something like a 3rd grader, that'll show those big bullies!"
I would be embarrassed as hell that the people of the 9th district chose this complete fool to represent them except that the majority of that district are poor black folks who apparently, if you believe as democrats certainly do, are too stupid to represent their own best interests effectively. In this particular instance I have to agree with the democrats.
