It's good, but I don't drive over there for it. We've stopped on the way back from Sam's a couple times. The same family owns Fratelli's Italian Restaurant in Barboursville. It's also good, But I wouldn't drive up here from South Point for it. In fact I think they own like 7 restaurants in the area upwards of Gallipolis down to South Point and into WV. Tequila Grille is better and I like Tortilla Factory as well. Three Amigos is a local favorite, too, in Barboursville. I've eaten at all of them and they all have things I like. If you havent been up here to try those then you aren't really making an informed decision, either.
The point of that is all the Mexican restaurants have good food if you like Mexican, but none are so special they're worth traveling for if you have options nearby. And you could try something different every week for a year at any of them and not run out of options. Eventually you'll find something you like at each one. More importantly they don't belong on a list of local fare for out of town visitors to Huntington WV asking about places to eat, locally.
Exactly
If I stay somewhere with my wife more than one non-breakfast meal we will be eating Mexican food. I appreciate people recommending good restaurants regardless of type.
Interesting. You're in the BBQ capital of the world. I've seen a bunch of posts asking UAB fans that very question and I've yet to see a single one give a Mexican restaurant for an answer. People want to know what you have special to your area.
Special is relative. Ask someone from Nashville what is the best hot chicken place and you'll get five different answers.
Most of the time when people ask for special Huntington places we always give the same responses. Jim's Spaghetti, Hillbilly Hot Dogs, The Peddler and that's fine. Those are the unique places. But it's okay to offer options. I think you mean unique...
If we are being honest with ourselves, Hillbilly Hot Dogs is really and truly the only "unique place." It's a one and only experience.
Hillbilly Hotdogs is the Disney World of Hotdog joints.

I love Mexican food. I eat Mexican food maybe once every 2 weeks. I absolutely appreciate the opportunity to eat good Mexican food! I figure I'll be in Huntington for at least 5 meals... if it is EXCELLENT Mexican food, I'm absolutely willing to try it.

That is the same location as the old Chilly Willies. Man, miss that spot. My wife and I loved going there when we were in college.
At the time when they closed, they said they would open under a new business model with their recipes. And they never did. I would still love to get my hands on that turkey chili.
The original Chili Willis was where the original backyard was on 4th Ave. You can still get the black bean soup at Jewel City, I believe.

They said they're not opening up a new restaurant...
"Friends and fans... You're all awesome! But we've got to pump the brakes on some assumptions. We're not reopening another restaurant (right now). However, it's a great announcement and you're going to love it! #cincodemayo"

Key words being “right now”. I’m still holding on to hope.

Whoever, ever, ever said WV is a bbq capital? Beautiful scenery, tons to do for the outdoorsman, coal powering the country...Yes. BBQ, no.
That was in reference to a UAB fan and their BBQ.
Does B'ham use the Alabama white sauce? Because that is not bad, but certainly not the best. ECU is in the worst part of NC, and I rarely have good things to say about the Pirates, but those chuckleheads know how to make some BBQ. I have eaten it everywhere--Memphis, St Louis, Kansas City, and of course all across NC and SC, and nothing is better than Eastern NC BBQ with their vinegar-based sauce.

I think it’s used mostly for smoked chicken and turkey. I prefer the sweet and spicy molasses based sauces but have to stick to vinegar or sugar freeze

I know a lot of people in and around Huntington have a nastalgia for Chili Willi's. And when it opened in 1983 it was great, at that time there was very little in terms of Mexican food that wasn't Taco Bell in the Tri-State area.
That's not the case now and truthfully Ive ate much better Mexican than Chili Willi's in WV, even in the last 10 years since they have been closed.

Do you have any idea if Marshall is going allow a full capacity stadium? I know ECU's AD just came out and said "it's looking like it" for ECU home games.
Just wondering if it will be a "normal" gameday experience.

I think it depends on the specific location you visit, but white sauce typically isn't hard to find in Alabama. Red sauce is also always available too.

I'll second the eastern NC vinegar based bbq as best, although I like all styles of bbq and would never turn any down.

I have used it on practically all meats. I find that it accentuates the smoke flavor (the true measure of ‘Que in my opinion) without overpowering it.

That's me Eastern NC BBQ. The funniest is Texas, they put beef brisket on a taco shell and call it BBQ. Taste pretty good but it ain't BBQ.
