Baseball: vs. Coastal Carolina (Wednesday - 6 PM)

Baseball 4/13/2021 7:16:00 PM Tom Riordan

Baseball Preview: Coastal Carolina

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW opens a brief four-game homestand Wednesday with a 6 p.m. start against long-time rival Coastal Carolina.

The game will be the first of three this month. A fourth game, which was postponed earlier this month, may be added to the schedule later in the season.

The Seahawks (15-12) will start freshman righthander Jacob Shafer while the Chanticleers (15-11) will start a freshman of their own in Casey Green.

Both programs are coming off weekend series losses, UNCW dropped three at #13 Oklahoma State and CCU lost 2-of-3 at UT Arlington in Sun Belt Conference play.

The Chants won last year's only meeting between the two programs. CCU held off the Seahawks, 4-3, in mid-February.

UNCW continues the homestand this weekend with three games against visiting UNC Asheville. The series was added to the schedule earlier this week. That series kicks off at 6 p.m. on Friday.

A promising start has really faded. This is a great opportunity for UNCW to right the ship against a historically good rival.

The difference, because you are incapable of understanding, is that this is a team that is actually playing vs. bashing a coach and team before they ever took the field.

If I carried an opinion the way you do, i'd have been trashing the baseball team before the first ptich was thrown. Then, i'd be using their CAA record and their recent beating by Ok St. as evidence I was right to trash the team before the first pitch.

Then, i'd go after the coach for "underperforming" with the players he has.

Instead, I pointed out a fact(we started really well), another fact(we faded after that great start), and then an opinion(this is a great chance to get back on track). Nothing negative in the entire post.

The difference is this coach has EARNED the benefit of the doubt, Siddle has not yet. Success buys you that. I was obviously being sarcastic, lets not derail the baseball thread.

It's worth noting that this isn't the usual RPI builder with Coastal having an off year and sitting at #82 currently.

He actually hasn't. This is his first real year as HC after Covid cancelled last year

And yes, Coastal is down, which is why I referred to them as a "historically" good rival. We're probably pretty evenly matched, so a series win would get us back on track. We won't be facing hitters like Ok St. so we can hopefully limit the runs.

He's won games, lots of them. And was winning before the season got shut down. He's brought in good recruits, and kept them. Half his team didn't transfer....... i could go on and on, Siddle walks on water and pisses rainbows with you, we get it. But again, let's not derail this thread.
I agree with you, it's a good op for a decent win, then hopefully break out the brooms over the weekend!

Just to clarify: This is a midweek game tonight, not a series. Though we do face them 2 more times later this month (Apr 27-28) as part of the "season series".

We recently added UNC Asheville onto the schedule for a home series this coming weekend. CAA play will resume for us the following weekend @ Elon (Apr 23-25).

Team is not competitive this year. Hitting and pitching not there and coaching too tonight . Why not bring Adam Smith in with bases loaded to keep it at 4-2. Hawks have golden chance inning earlier and can’t even advance ball.

RE: Baseball: vs. Coastal Carolina (Wednesday - 6 PM)
Baseball is such a hard game but one that is really easy to second guess every decision made and every pitch thrown. Hodges has great stuff but has struggled with command lately. The only decision I have guessed about all year was bringing in Gesell in relief but even that is a kind of I get it type deal. They need a win and he is available so there you go but it backfired so guys like me can say-WTF ? They are talented on both sides but they have had trouble putting it all together for 9 innings. UNCA is a chance to get back on track.
