The AD was not joking when he said he responded to emails.
I sent one and got a reply in less than 15 minutes. It was evident that it was not a copy and paste email either.

Wow, that is impressive! I was pleased with how much he worked with the historical figures/legends of EMU- Gervin, Higgins, Braun, etc. And pleased with how engaged the historical figures/Legends were. I am curious, can you summarize the content of your email and the response if not too private?

thanks for posting. I was already on board with Heath, but after listening to him talk i'm thrilled that he's here. he called out so many former players that he knows - some of whom were in the room - and talked about how he wants them back and involved with Eastern. i'm sure every coach says something like that, but this is a dude who played with Grant Long & Fred Cofield and has a relationship with Boykins, Gervin and the Thomases. i believe it when i hear it from him.

I was a Bronkema guy through and through. I've seen too many coaches hit the wall once they hit their fifties, Bob Knight, Jim Harbaugh, Lloyd Carr, the list goes on and on. College coaching is an absolute grind, a pro coach goes on a long vacation after his last game, a NCAA coach needs to get back on the recruiting trail the next day! Tough gig to say the least.

Stan Heath, however, made me a believer today. Higgins, Cofield, Braun and Gervin were in attendance or mentioned in the presser, this is EMU comin' home as a community. He mentioned engaging the community and filling the Convo as well, objectives that are dear to my heart. He was damned near perfect!

Bronkema may have been indeed the next "Ben Braun" but he does not have the emotional connection to EMU or to the EMU alumni just waiting to be reengaged. Stan, however, does. I'm feeling pretty good right now!

Heath's 11-12 minute was one of the best EMU coaches speeches I've ever heard! It talked about the 80's legends by name, talked about packing the convo similar to Bowen, up tempo offense, holding kids accountable, meeting his wife at E Michigan, etc.........I felt excited, and energy that I've not felt since Harkema, and Braun! A winner! I really believe he will recruit talent wise similar to Murphy, but without all the JUCO's, and the greatest line We'll WIN soon within a few years! We've not had a coach do that in football or basketball in a long time!

I agree with you. I just got an opportunity to watch the presser — what an impressive person! You can tell this job has personal meaning for him, and he is driven to make it special.

I just wish I lived in Michigan and could buy a season ticket! I might do so anyway, just to support the program.

Well now its roll up the sleeves time. The punch and cake are all gone. So it will be interesting to see which assistants get hired and who and what type of players we will recruiting. To turn around in a short time you would need very high caliber high school or prep players, junior college players and or transfers.

I will have to find the article but there is mention that the yearly salary is $400k per year plus incentives.

LOT of posters were selling hamburger.

The names mentioned months age were decidedly not very appetizing. As the NCAAs were coming to a close, the number of big name asst coaches, etc. continued to increase.

I'm still giddy over the depth of candidates Wetherbe had to choose from.

As I reflect on the hiring of Stan Heath, I am thankful that Scott listened to those of us who said we had to have an alum in place to promote healing and to rebuild goodwill in the community and Eagle Nation after 10 years of neglect. Stan Heath is the right guy at the right time. The rebuilding job is going to be immense and a first time HC would have a tremendously difficult time. So for everybody demanding an EMU alum, thanks for making your voices be heard. We got it done and we can get back to being TruEMU. 04-cheers

Yes, being an alum is helpful and we got the right one.

Folks tossed out a lot of names who don't have the professional resume of Heath.

We have a lot of alums, mostly in the 80s and 90s, who are in the coaching profession, but Heath has the broadest and deepest resume.

There are still seats available if Neely, Ch. Thomas, Ca. Thomas, Boykins, etc. want to come back.

We got the perfect fit for us.

But we really need to stop with the Bronkema bashing. His accomplishments as a young coach are immense.

Wow, that is impressive! I was pleased with how much he worked with the historical figures/legends of EMU- Gervin, Higgins, Braun, etc. And pleased with how engaged the historical figures/Legends were. I am curious, can you summarize the content of your email and the response if not too private?

Without going into detail, I will say that the response I received was personable, it demonstrated strong knowledge of the areas I submitted for consideration, and it made me feel heard. It was the kind of email that went a long way to foster faith and trust in the AD.

Sorry he is great for where he is at. There's, is no comparison between his coaching experience and,Heaths in my opinion. And no contest which one I would pick even if Heath was not an alumni.

Yeah I mean compared to heath - he isnt the right choice. Bronk is going to make some school look REAL smart when they hire him away in a year or two.

Fair enough. I’ll just add that Hawkins is great where he is at too — the unemployment office.
