We have plenty of LOIs to give. No need to run to the pharmacy for a 18 month supply of Prozac.

Let's see how the recruiting goes.

Grad transfers = dead men walking. If they could play they wouldn’t have 2 years of play time left.07-coffee3 Tried that remember 8 upper class men 4seniors 4 grad students. 07-coffee3

It will be fun to watch. Like an expansion draft of sorts. We have, what, 3 or 4 scholarship players left? I’m excited to see how Heath builds the team for this upcoming season. If he hits the ground running, he could put together a decent team right away.

I think we might have much more than that.

I'm using the 'official' 2021/2 roster from the EMU website.

As I read it, all but one or two scholarship players are 'freebies' - don't count against the 13 NCAA limit because teams can offer athletic scholarships to players who were seniors in 2020/21 which was a good share of our team.

EMU lists SIX redshirt seniors. They don't count against the 13 scholarship limit. IF the NCAA limit is 15 players, I think we could add 7 players. I count 6 non-counters, only 1 who counts (Lowder).

If couldn’t play this year what makes you think they can play next year. I say clean house and start over.07-coffee3

this is so awesome. since he's been around for so long, i assumed he was in his sixties. he's still in his prime coaching years, which makes this even better. i'm thrilled.

And he is young for his age. Looks to be in good shape. 50s are an age where some men run marathons and others run to the refrig for another cold one...

I would like to hear how Stan explained to his wife that he wanted to move back to Michigan from Florida. Maybe the fact that she's also EMU alum made that conversation a little less painful.

Disagree. You've got to start with something and these guys may perform better with a new system. Besides, running student-athletes away from the program sends a terrible message to potential recruits.

'Nickle, I agree with you. One of the things about Heath is that he is presumably a really good Xs and Os coach.

Let see if he can coach up some of them. Players aren't coming back to lose.

Will they prefer a different defensive scheme? Offensive scheme?

With all due respect to the other candidates, this is the most qualified coach we could’ve asked for and maybe (some of you guys can correct me if I’m wrong) the most qualified hire in school history. And he’s an alum. Today is a great day and I can’t wait to see what he does with the program.

Agreed 100%. This guy is a grand slam. Frankly, I thought he was out of our league (and salary range).

RIGHT NOW, we have three: Lowder, Binelli, and Ballard. That leaves us with 10 scholarships. Even if Love, Okongo, Morgan, and Spottsville return, they wouldn't count against our cap because they are "Super Seniors".

PG 6-0 Lowder / ?

SF 6-5 Morgan / ?
PF 6-8 Ballard / 6-10 Binelli
C 7-0 Okongo / 6-11 Love

Agree with you somewhat, but Spottsville can't be a starter on a decent team. And I would probably switch Ballard and Binelli.

I'm not sure Binelli counts. Wasn't he considered a senior for 2020/21??

There might be a hard cap of 15 players in MBB between scholarship, walk-ons, etc. I'll try to find out.

You're right -- indeed he was. So 11 scholarships to play with. ; )

He hasn’t committed anywhere yet, so maybe it’s a possibility? Probably closer to wishful thinking, but the door is at least open. I’m hoping Heath does what Mike Woodson did at Indiana and make retaining his best player the top priority.

BTW, Stan Heath has been a HC for many years, but as an assistant coach he learned from two of the best: Jim Larranaga at BG and later Tom Izzo up at State.

Larranaga is one of the really underrated coaches. He performed miracles at George Mason. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Larra%C3%B1aga

Don't have much to add, other than being very happy with the hire like pretty much everyone else seems to be. I was a Bronkema guy, but didn't really know of Stan was an option, so just as thrilled with him! He is also young enough he could be here for a good 10-15 year round.
