O/T Kevin Ollie and a new post-h.s. PRO League
Seems they are trying to start essentially a MINOR league (in my opinion) as an alternative to the idea of top h.s. talent going to college for a season and then the NBA.

MLB has a path of going from h.s. to minor leagues OR players can go to college for 3 years and then MLB.

This seemingly would create an alternative path. The G-League Ignite was home to top h.s. talent who skipped college completely. A few will go very high in the NBA lottery this July.

This would present an opportunity for HS grads to pursue a professional career without the NCAA. It truly is time, the NBA and NFL have been using the NCAA as a farm system long enough.

This league is for kids 16-18 years old (HS juniors and seniors) so not HS grads.

Yeah, I was sloppy with my post. P.S. this is robbing the cradle. I don't know how 16 and 17 year olds get paid to play hoops.

We've had a lot of posting on this forum today. Probably a record for us.

Ollie sounds like a snake that's out to make a buck at the expense of good decision making by HS kids and their parents.

It's a shame that so many HS kids change schools every year. They're all chasing NBA glory and only a small percentage will get there.

Make it like baseball. Once a kid decides to play college ball he needs to stay in school for 3 years before he can go pro.

Not just HS kids - look at all the college players in transfer portal!

It's like the Wild, Wild West - "Have Jump Shot, Will Travel."

"One and Done" is NBA rule, not NCAA. The Association will never go for one similar to Baseball.

Agree. And the one thing about the 3-year college rule for baseball is that the student-athlete will be close enough to a degree that they may actually try to finish it.

One year of college is good for playing hoop, and partying.

And the one year grad work in CFB. Player says, hey I'm only playing fall semester so... I ain't worried about 2nd semester.

Thanks for the clarification Major! The Forbes article did not spell that out.

I suddenly don't like this idea. By participating in this venture a 16 year old kid is, in essence forfeiting any chance of higher education for a one or two year payment of $100,000, hardly a tremendous amount of money over a lifetime. A career ending injury leaves him where? Also there are are a lot of players like MSU's Mateen Cleaves who were fabulous young players and had stellar college careers, but simply were not NBA capable. If Mateen joins this league, there is no NCAA Championship ring, no MSU degree and he becomes just another guy who played basketball in Flint. A 16 year old cannot be trusted to make such a decision, in my opinion.

I would rather see our elected officials strong arm the NBA and NFL into creating minor league operations, after all both print money. They could make it illegal for taxpayers to finance stadiums as they do now for example. Other weapons are also available. Just please make them establish a career path similar to MLB, it is only fair.
