21K's. Sweet Mother. It's the first perfect game in North Texas history.

I thought the 21 strikeouts was incredible until I read she has accomplished this before at NT.

According to ESPN, this is the first 21k Perfect Game in NCAA D1 history. Hope is ridiculous.

RE: Hope Trautwein Throws Perfect Game w/all Strikeouts
There have been 2 other games in NCAA softball history where a pitcher threw 21 K's in a 7-inning game. One (Michelle Granger from Cal-Berkeley) was a no-hitter, but not a perfect game.

It's too bad the game wasn't a regularly scheduled 9 inning game. The NCAA record for most K's in a 9-inning game is just 23.

To my mind, a truly perfect game would be 21 outs in 21 batters on 63 pitches, all swinging strikes.

I don't think softball plays 9 inning games any more.....to my knowledge every game USM softball has played the since coming back in 1999 have all been 7 inning games unless the run rule or extra innings were in effect.

In 2000 which was USM's second season of restarting the program our pitchers (mainly Courtney Blades) combined to throw 41 shutouts in the 63 wins and at one point combined on 12 consecutive shutouts

That takes intentionally throwing balls outside the strike zone out of the equation. Pitching is a mental game as well as physical one.

If you make them swing and miss, it doesn't matter where the pitch is. Remember, I said swinging strikes, not called strikes.

so throw that 0-2 wherever you want. Or that 0-0 pitch. Make them swing...and miss.

That's kind of saying that 21 3-2 counts that result in strikeouts are the same as 21 0-2 counts that result in strikeouts. which would you rather see your pitcher deal with?

Point taken. However, some batters, by habit, take the first pitch. So by your definition, if the very first batter of the game chooses to take the game's first pitch (or any batter takes any other pitch), the perfect game is already over, even if it's a called strike. That's not fair to the pitcher, first of all. But expecting every batter to swing at every pitch, whether in the strike zone or not, is also just unreasonable. If you had said no called balls, that's a different matter, as there are called strikes and swinging strikes. But you can't in effect 'penalize' a pitcher if one batter decides to take a pitch.

just saying there are different definitions of perfect. In this case, some outcomes would be "more" perfect than others. Just think of any perfect game, and tell me how it could have been better. All of them could be.

Yeah, expecting every batter to swing at every pitch (and miss) is not reasonable. Never said it was reasonable. Just saying it is the most perfect game I can think of. What could be more perfect than that? The most overpowering, dominating game I can think of.

OK, no called balls. The pitcher fools the batter(s) with every one of 63 pitches. Now that is perfection. Even better than than all swinging.

Not the greatest pitching performance of all times. It was against a horribly bad team. However, throwing 21 strikeouts and a perfect game to boot is historic.

I say it was not. Said nothing about what anyone else said.

Hope Trautwein Throws Perfect Game w/all Strikeouts
Until someone tops it, then *statistically* this is the greatest perfect game in collegiate history.

NICELY DONE

I predict it might be matched but will never be topped.

Only way IMO to top it would be to do the same feat in an extra-innings game
