Monday Musings twilight edition
Glad I waited to muse until tonight a lot to unpack here.
With CMU parting ways with Keno! it appears the three Michigan MAC teams are up to something with their Men's Basketball programs. WMU whiffed last year and ended up cutting costs is that what cmu and emu do too?

The guy I wanted for emu is now back in Bloomington as an assistant coach. Not surprised he left east Lansing.
Baseball is back! but softball is not. Tiger baseball looked the same today as it has since 2018. Going to be a long spring around here except for rounds at eagle crest.

I lived much of the 2021/21 MAC MBB season in a cave without DirecTV, WEMU, ESPN+/3.

Did CMU/EMU/WMU all underperform? 03-lmfao

Incredible the amount of turmoil in the MI MAC MBB programs.

IF there is a MI MAC MBB trophy, they should withhold it this year.

Maybe. They are both in one bid leagues. UDM may have a more delusional fan base then us. Will be interesting to see what non-conference scheduling looks like next season.

RE: Monday Musings twilight edition
I'm going to toss this here because it belongs to multiple threads. I'm borrowing this from Mlive and it has to do with seniors getting their 'free' year...

"(If they were to transfer elsewhere, they would count against their new program’s cap; same for any transfer Michigan brings in.)"

So the scholarship count exemption only applies to your own players who stay the extra year. Can't go out an get say a few or half dozen seniors from other schools and stash them on your roster for 2021.

So those grad transfers we see COUNT against their NEW schools' 13 scholarship limit in hoops; 85 in FB.

It's been about 10 years since EMU has played at UM. That needs to change.

Wisconsin is paying us $1.4 million for the game this fall. All things considered, that's probably a better deal than what CMU just got... $1.4 million in 2021 dollars > $1.5 million in 2025 dollars.

Frank, travel costs...

How much does it cost to get the buses to go to Ann Arbor instead of DTW?

Don't want to sound silly, but it should cost less to go to the Big House than get to the airport.

WI isn't cheap because of the cost of air + lodging.

Yes, good point on travel. I should clarify that my point was that Michigan isn't the only school paying big bucks for guarantee games. There are other options.

I agree with both of you. Actually I think Wisconsin is a nice option for the kids, part of the paycheck game allure is allowing your team to see other parts of the country. 100K fans is nice but 6 miles west on Washtenaw-Stadium Blvd is definitely a meh.

BTW, some here were kind of like... wow. Murphy is let go by EMU and bingo has a job with the Pistons from Troy Weaver. Like that was fast.

Well, according to Wikipedia those two go back decades. Murphy succeeded Troy Weaver at Syracuse.

"Following the 2004 season, when Syracuse Orange assistant coach Troy Weaver left for a coaching position with the Utah Jazz, Murphy was hired by the Orange."

As I had posted, Murphy has had deep relationships with big time NBA executives, Scott Perry (Knicks) and Troy Weaver (Pistons).

BTW, Troy Weaver was behind OKC drafting Russell Westbrook.

A lot of the EMU players are from other states. All those Ohio and Oklahoma kids would get a thrill out of playing in AA.

Am I the only one that thinks if EMU were to play UM this fall that it would be a close game and possibly an EMU upset?

One of my Tweets from yesterday (should have done it Monday evening. Lol):

"Is it just me, but does every day in D-I hoops now feel like the first day of free agency in the NFL? Kind of head spinning."

I follow Jeff Goodman and Verbal Commits on Twitter. Oh, my. I see all of these moves.

RE: Monday Musings twilight edition
This is 'huge' for the MAC. NO longer banning (i.e., penalizing one year) a player who transfers INTRA-conference.

https://csnbbs.com/thread-920320.html

The way it works: Normally a school releases a student athlete without conditions. NCAA normally applies a one-year sitout, except for grad transfers. IF the school doesn't grant the release the player sits out AND LOSES the transfer year.

This means MAC transfers can stay within conference, instead of being forced to another conference to avoid losing a year of eligibiity.

Now FB players who don't think Mount Pleasant is neither mountainous nor pleasant, can come to EMU... :)

With you Nickle and it will suck.

John U Bacon predicted that the NCAA "sports bubble" will eventually burst. I'm not sure I agree but if I were to see Hutchinson playing QB for WMU in his senior year and throwing to or handing off to Grissom on a reverse, while cheering for "our" team that includes a bunch of transfers, I think that would be the pin that would burst that bubble for me.
