I reckon it would! I don't hold the checkbooks myself, but I don't think there's much of a wait at all.

last question--what's the approximate cost per student for the trip? I'm wondering if we can get a couple folks to committing to sponsors one or two students each?

Right now, I am going to estimate roughly $90 per student - which includes $45 for tickets and an even split of the cost of a couple charter buses. We are still trying to finalize costs and explore cost-saving measures (group ticket discounts, different bus options namely), but ~$90 is my safe estimate at the moment.

How much per student to have one attend a home game?

Home games at W&M? Free - students can attend any home game free with a student ID, in any sport.

It’s interesting that mostly freshmen signed up. Was it just easier to contact them (through a “Welcome to W&M” mailing or something)? Or does something happen to turn students off to attending sports events by the time they’re sophomores?

That's honestly a great question! Tribal Fever has historically always been freshman-heavy, at least in recent memory. That's something worthy of investigation on our part, and I'm sure we can find some answers.

What's with all the questions? Donate a couple hunskies and make yourself a White Russian to celebrate doing a good turn.

Tbh I went to more football/basketball games as a freshman than I did in other years. I think when you first show up to college you're looking to make friends and meet people, and a trip like that is a good way to do it. Also, at least in my high school, attending the football game was basically the thing to do on a Friday night, so I would bet that's the mindset of freshmen coming in.

Who said the two are mutually exclusive? But I can’t help wondering what the old place is like nowadays. My kids are getting closer and closer to that age, so decisions will need to be made.

Am in favor of W&M students being able to attend away games. Am wildly in favor of W&M students attending home games. The question I posed, admittedly facetiously, was to pull the string on whether any incentive(s) would work to persuade the students to show up in larger numbers in Williamsburg and help with home field advantage.

My recollection is that the JMU athletic budget has a seven figure line item for "Spirit Groups" so I get that some help is in order.

I can agree with this. After at least sophomore year, typically students find their "clique" and new engagement becomes less likely. Our work at Tribal Fever has to be making Athletics the "clique" (for lack of a better term) that keeps students engaged.

In doing some comparison work with other spirit groups, I did have a discussion with JMU's organization. While they are structured differently than us, they have an additional focus on social events - something we might could emulate.

The questions help make a compelling argument to some folks that may not donate.

"Hey--Donate $90 and send a student to the UVA game" is more compelling than "There's a post on the message boards about needing money for a bus load of students to the UVA game".

White Russians are nasty.

I neglected to mention, but our Donation Report Form is still active, so if you made a donation, taking a quick moment to fill this out would be greatly appreciated: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1vfJhx7N...rEHYw/edit

RE: Donate to Tribal Fever! (OTOD)
We did it! We filled up two buses of students to take to Scott Stadium last night - nearly 90 students! And we also had enough funds to give a couple extra tickets to students who were already in the Charlottesville area. It was fantastic to fill the stands, even with the game not going in our favor. We're so proud of our athletes, and we thank y'all so much for you generosity in giving. Much more to come!

Very quiet student social media these last few weeks. No posts that Ive noted for last few football game. No post regarding Basketball Monday. Is there somewhere besides Tribal Fever and Tribe Student Section that this info is being disseminated? If not, Tribe Club really needs to step up in boosting these clubs. There should be a social media coordinator for student and fan interest. This is standard practice in any organization today. Probably should have a work-study paid position in the Athletic Department for this.

IMO leadership of the Tribe Club seems to only focus on fundraising and feels that fan engagement is the responsibility of the the Athletic department and their marketing team.

Maybe the leadership of the Tribe Club should take a few courses at Mason about marketing trends.

RE: Donate to Tribal Fever!
Off topic but only slightly, there has been little to no marketing of football OTHER than social media. Haven’t seen one giveaway all year. Not a magnet, Pom Pom, schedule, poster, program, koozie. Nothing. And very sporadic and weak use of the video scoreboard.
