have you had the ribs from BBG? or their smoked turkey? Full Moon is my go to and I eat their several times a month but it aint BBG.

Yeah Gibson’s is the best bbq on the planet. Nikki’s west is the best meat and three on the planet.

No I haven't but is it really that good you would deviate 25 miles off your route to eat there? I can't speak for Marine but I wouldn't especially if I was driving a long distance.

Everyone have their preferences of BBQ and everyone favorite BBQ place is the best there is. I ate at Dreamland for the first time yesterday because I thought it was a shame I've lived here for 25 yrs and had never eating there. And I can tell you after eating my meal that I will never eat there again...except for the banana pudding. It wasn't terrible but I've had better. But I know people that swears Dreamland is the best BBQ they've ever had so it's all subjective.

Yes I detour to BBG if I’m heading home down I-65 so for me think the ribs are worth it.

For BBQ in BG I recommend Nine Twenty Live (off of exit 22, turn right at Starbucks) or Smokey Pig (off of exit 28). Both have limited hours though so depending on when you come through they might not be an option. Nine Twenty Live is open Thursday through Sunday. Smokey Pig is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

For Seafood there is not a lot of choices but I hear Juicy Seafood is good. It will be a bit of a trek (15 minutes or so off of the interstate). Get off I65 at exit 20, follow the sign to Owensboro and drive up 165 to 31W.

BBG is hot even in my top 10 BBQ places and have been disappointed every time there. Only reason I went back several times is someone else was paying.

Alright y’all, we are finally spending the night in B’ham, close to the airport and most of the day tomorrow since I have to do some work and need WiFi. So I need some ideas to entertain the wife, my sister in law and my niece while I work.

Mine either. The few times I've been there the meat is always dried out and overcooked. Although that might be a localized preference as my experience with Whitt's over in Athens is exactly the same...and relatives up that way rave about both.

I gave them a recommendation list and SAWS was at the top of it. So let’s see where they go, they really wanted to go do some hiking but it’s supposed to rain so I don’t know if they’ll get to do that

Ruffner Mountain is reasonably close if they want to get a hike in.

After getting stopped by the Capitol Police(?) because they trespassed into Federal Property and being asked by some homeless people why they were at a park, because “they don’t get their kind around there” (lol), they ended up going to Ruffner Mountain.

Where were yall staying? The area around the airport isn't in a great part of town. Something downtown would've been a lot better.

Ruffner has some good hiking though. Did they end up going to Saw's?

You'll need your Marine skills if you're staying near the airport. Keep yer head on a swivel.

Yeah we didn’t know what we were getting ourselves into lol there was a funny smell all throughout the hotel when we checked in. Not complaining though, the WiFi was good and the breakfast was decent, way better than other places we have stayed at for the same price. My wife and SIL got their hike in and loved Ruffner Mountain.

We thought we were going to make it to Bowling Green last night, but we are towing a vintage camper so we can only go so fast.

Yes Mariah's is still here and still pretty good but they moved it from the historic building. It is right next to the BG ballpark now. I miss the OLD Mariah's from before the fire. They had that two story mural of BG. The food was much more unique back then too.

The seafood place you are thinking of is Steamers. Unfortunately they are permanently closed.

Yes, Steamer’s was the name of the restaurant. Two locations, the original on Hilton Head Island and the other in BG. They also ran concessions at both WKU football and basketball. As far as I know, both restaurants are now closed. The original in HHI was sold with a new location in a new development in the works. For whatever reason the new location never materialized. One in BG closed around the same time. Both restaurants seemed profitable. The one in HHI had been open 20+ years and was still a mainstay on the island. The one in BG was always busy. The owner had other business ventures. Not sure if they had anything to do with the closures or not.

Dale Augenstein was the owner. Our new Alumni Center is named for him. I believe he made the initial $1 Million investment to get the fundraising for that building started.

Mariah’s is still around but in a new location. Ironically, the BG location of Steamer’s was in the old Mariah’s building. He purchased it and did a ton of renovations. Was really cool inside.
