I did color for the game on AT&T sports net and spoke to Bert Sr at halftime. Don't be shocked if Jr ends up in the Big 10. The young sophomore QB for Dickinson looked tremendous as well. Bert Sr says Jr is a much better player than he was at that age.

I haven't seen the stats but my guess is he ran for close to 150 yards and 3 TD's, and threw for another 2 TD's? I'm shocked he hasn't had more major offers at this point.

On a negative Rice note, ND Kalu's kid (DK) was hurt early in the game. I think he'll be okay but he didn't return after hurting his leg. He's just a junior.

Here are Bert Jr.’s stats per the Chronicle.

Emanuel finished with 239 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries and 172 yards and two scores on 14-of-21 passing without a turnover.

Bert rushing for an 80-yard touchdown run in last night's playoff win (41-20 over Cy Fair). They play Atascocita Friday night at UH, with a potential North Shore (or Katy Tompkins) meeting if they win that one. He's now accounted for 3300 yards of offense this season, 43 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. Yet, his only D1 offers (as a QB) remain Army, Texas Southern and Lamar. Utter lunacy.

Despite all the other reason discussed elsewhere in detail on the Parliament, Blomgren and his staff should be fired based on no offer to this Owl legacy alone!

3300 yards, 43 TDs and 0 INTs. That’s just sick.

If Bloomgren is still here, he’d probably run and throw all over us in 2023 as a member of TSU’s team.

From the comment by another poster, UH is also not recruiting him (to be a quarterback, anyway). Any insight as to why the Cougars are also taking a pass?

I don't understand Dana's philosophy on QB's, but I think he's gonna be looking at the portal more than a HS QB. I think teams are scared off Bert because of his throwing motion, but I think he could be a great college QB like a Greg Ward. Just because a guy might not be a pro prospect at QB is no reason not to recruit a guy to play QB at the college level. I dare say Bert is better than both young men who played for the Longhorns today.

I wonder if this can be run up the chain of command to the (new) president?

I’m not saying.

I’m just sayin’.

RE: Bert Jr.
Bert Jr. would dictate a different offensive scheme, if we were to make full use of his talents. That scheme would probably be a better fit for JoVoni and McCaffrey, too. But Bloomgren appears to be too hard-headed to do that. So he will just keep trying to pound square pegs into round holes until 1) they fit or 2) he's gone.

I've posted several times on here about my favorite offense--the combination of flexbone and run-and-shoot that Paul Johnson ran with Tracy Ham at QB for Georgia Southern under Russell and with Garrett Gabriel and Ivin Jasper at QB for Hawaii under Bob Wagner. I've posted these before, but posting again for you the highlights from scoring 56 and 59 against ranked BYU in 1989 and 1990 with Gabriel:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwnbkqkV0VI

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8hSNIjIfms

I'm posting these because Gabriel didn't have a great throwing motion. His windup was almost as long as a baseball pitchers. But the threat of the option running game opened up a lot of passing lanes.

Don't have the highlights, but in 1991 they scored 42 against a Notre Dame team that beat #3 Florida in the Sugar Bowl.

My point in posting is that I think Bert Jr. could very clearly run that offense effectively.

RE: Bert Jr.
Arguments about 'throwing motion' are exactly what I speak about when I'm saying that coaching is an apprenticeship business... and these guys mostly want kids and schemes who can take them to the next level... whatever that next level is. What they don't often want is kids who can succeed in a 'dead end' (for the coaches) offense.

I watched McCaffery in his few chances this year. The kid is a winner. The kid is a scrapper. He doesn't have the prototype skills and measurables, but he reminds me of that UT QB I HATED to watch (rhymes with Meat Schmardere) because he just found ways to complete passes and make plays. Manziel was the same sort of guy.

Bert runs too much for a coach not to be concerned about him... but as someone said, With Deuce, McCaffery and Jovani on the same team and numerous years of eligibility between them, I'd be willing to take my chances.

I'm not sure what games you watched this year, but McCaffrey has a 48% completion percentage to go with 1 passing TD and 4 INTs. He definitely has great scrambling ability, but his passing ability is not there to be a steady QB at the FBS level.

I'm hopeful Itraish can turn out to be a good QB, because next year is either him, McCaffrey or McMahon at the helm.

I went to the atascocita game last night. Emmanuel made some fantastic throws. Gave me a Desmond Ridder vibe. Counted at least 3 players with 3 Nfl fathers. Bert Jr. definitely can play at the next level. No doubt my opinion is worthless but my gosh I have seen a lot less talented kids taking snaps all over the country on Saturdays.

I'd rather take my chances with 4 years of Bert Jr. than 1 year of somebody who wasn't good enough to play somewhere else.
