The AAC was 7th in conference RPI, that's how good the conference was, nowhere near the best. Houston is an excellent team, but a conference is not a team. When UNLV won the 1990 national title, that didn't make the Big West a good basketball conference. It wasn't.

But congratulations to the Cougars, first F4 since Thriller and Purple Rain and Can't Slow Down ruled the pop charts. And since I was a teenager, LOL.

Probably not the best conference, but it would be an impressive accomplishment. Difficult to be the best hoops conference with only 2 of 11 making the Tournament.

True but that’s a matter of committee bias and disrespect. No offense but when two conferences get a total of 16 bids the perceived little guys have to pay the price. Hint no conference is so good that they merit receiving 9 bids, and the first two rounds proved as much.07-coffee3

Somewhat. The broader point holds true even if the AAC had gotten 3 invitations...3 of 11 is still not a deep conference in hoops. The AAC had much better depth a half dozen years ago. In basketball, the AAC is not a little guy.

If they fix the bottom half of the conference they will be. Top half is legit but the bottom just drags them down.

I said this before the tournament started, Memphis was a tournament team. It’s just the committee selects teams on overall resume not how they’re playing at the end. I’m not sure why November and December matter as much but they do.

Thanks for the kind words about Memphis, esayem. Always appreciated.

04-cheers

This is 100 percent correct. The AAC almost always has three to five NCAA/NIT caliber teams. And then the rest of the teams border on bad. However, this year saw a bit better balance.

Oregon State won a major conference tournament to get in the Dance.

The clock struck midnight...got it

Precisely ... most often, the clock strikes midnight when the Cinderalla team hits the Sweet Sixteen. Though the fact that every once in a while the clock doesn't strike midnight until the Elite Eight does help keep up the suspense.
