We will have 1 Texas team in the championship. Hard to believe Texas Western (UTEP) is the only Texas school to win the national championship (1966). I’m excited for Baylor vs Houston!

If the underdogs win tomorrow, we would have a Texas vs California championship game! I got the #1s winning but the L.A. duo have been solid this tournament.

Zags have been dominant and consistent. But I really can’t count out a USC that beat Kansas by 34 in the tourney. Just an absolute demolition of their opposition in March. They might be able to pull it off.

Texas would have one more title if not for this thing called destiny, which reared its head in 1983.

I'm hoping for a USC upset tomorrow. I'm not holding my breath though. If the favorites win tomorrow then we have three 1 seeds and a 2 seed. Kind of how it usually goes for the NCAA tournament. It's usually a combination of 1 through 4 making it.

I don't know how much national attention it's going to get but of course I'm thinking about the breakup of the SWC and Baylor getting into the Big 12 and Houston being left behind as the big story behind this matchup. If I'm Houston, I haven't been waiting 6 months, I've been waiting 27 years!

There's been posts about the tournament being too much in favor of the big conferences and there should be a cap on the number of teams from a conference (I feel that the best 68 teams should be in regardless of conference with the exception that every conference should get a team). But if you want to talk about a sport that's too much in favor of the power conferences, how about a sport where a team can be undefeated two years in a row and not even have a chance to compete for the national championship? The Big 12 is a way better and richer conference than the AAC. It's way easier to recruit players to play at Baylor and sell them at the opportunity to play vs. Texas and Kansas than it is to get players to play for Houston. Yet come next Saturday, Houston will get their shot at Baylor. Central Florida didn't get their shot (and I'm not talking about their men's basketball team, I'm talking 2017 and 2018 in the F-word). Cincinnati didn't get their shot. If this were that other spot, Gonzaga wouldn't even be in the tournament. The Big 12 got seven teams in the Big Dance. The AAC got two. But right now they're on even footing. Is the NCAA Tournament biased in favor of big conferences? Sure. But compared to that other sport, at least the "little guys" have a chance. One of them will be in the Final Four and hopefully another one will be as well. What other sport are half the teams practically eliminated before they play their first game?

As for the all Texas battle, go Houston! They screwed you so screw them!

yes ncaa basketball and olympic sports include everybody but football not so much so it will he G5 want not to be treated as you say “ little ones” then we need to start our own D1 FBS division with football and real playoffs and a broadcast partner that has the money and time for us to grow in popularity which i fully believe it will in a few short years

... If Houston wins the whole thing, pairing that with a Memphis NIT win would be huge for the AAC (or for any league, for that matter). However, the American was the seventh-best (if that) league this year. Now, and on a positive note, there was some quality balance in the conference. And Houston, Wichita and Memphis made for (as we now know), a very strong trio.

As to Memphis, the Tigers proved they belonged in the NCAA Tournament with their NIT play. I know I will sound like a homer, but Memphis looked like a Sweet 16 team in the games vs. Colorado State and Mississippi State. BUT at the time of the selection, I fully understood the decision to not invite Memphis (and agreed with it).

Let's keep this in perspective.

No question, should Houston win the title, there will be great "propaganda value" in that and the NIT win by Memphis for the AAC, regardless of the underlying conference strength. It will look very good for the conference.

And as mediocre as AAC hoops has been from Day 1, it would be a fun thing to see for this Tiger and Bearcat fan.

04-cheers

“ Day 1 “, in the AAC.... UCONN won the national championship, you must be new to sports ...

Well there's always FCS. Technically the G5's could join them but that's a whole other debate.

I doubt it will get much if any. That happened 25 years ago, and even when it happened, it wasn't regarded as much of a big deal that Houston wasn't included.

This is a story for those of us who dwell on realignment. And that's just not a lot of people, IMO.

AAC men's basketball has been, collectively, mediocre (or perhaps I should say "rather mediocre") from Day 1 — UConn win or no. I stand by that argument and most unbiased followers of college hoops (including those on this board) agree.

Conversely, the AAC has overachieved (and in an exciting way) in football and likely in baseball, too.

Lots to be excited about if you're a fan of an AAC program.

I loosely root for the AAC (and the Big East) in a general sense and was excited that Houston won last night. Your Cougars are strong — and fully deserving of this opportunity. UH earned it. Congrats.

The AAC has been weird.... had some pretty decent results- but gotten relatively nothing out of Temple or Memphis(up to now). It's kind of similar to the Big East actually where they've gotten relatively speaking nothing out of St John's or Georgetown. Both leagues seen other programs in the league just sprout up- Houston in the AAC, Providence and Seton Hall in the Big East. Just the Big East has had Nova kicking ass and taking names, while a program like Cincy who did well never could quite get over the hump ever.

One reason (among many) I'm partial toward the American and the Big East is because neither is a member of the "big boy comprehensive Power 5 club." Both leagues are "outsiders" of sorts and have to work harder because of that.

I've been a Vanderbilt fan since the late 1960s but I've never cheered for the SEC like I do the AAC and BE.

RE: NCAA Elite 8 Thoughts
We are most likely going to get a final four of three #1 seeds and one #2 seed.

Michigan should dispatch of UCLA, as they have more talent and are better coached - Cronin is not bad, but Howard is excellent in game. I think Wagner is too crafty for them, Michigan will own the paint.

Gonzaga is the most likely team to be upset in the Elite 8, as they drew the 4th best team in the tournament in USC (sorry Houston, you are clearly next tier to the #1 seeds, except Illinois who exited already). This USC team is made up of Freshmen and transfers, all five starters new. They found themselves during the year. The Mobley brothers very likely will destroy Timme. But can they contain Krispert, make him work for shots, it willto force Gonzaga to get everything through Suggs? This is one hell of a match up, the two teams with the best raw talent on the floor. This is the game I most want to watch.
