RE: NCAA Sat Thoughts
PAC is now 6-0 (counting Oregon's walkover) and has 5 teams in the Round of 32.

Not bad for a conference written off as not a real power conference by many.

The Conference of Champions. Not a truck stop conference. 02-13-banana

I seem to recall I have posted previously how "mediocre" the Pac-12 is. I was wrong. Good job Conference of Champions. And on this theme ... UCLA is damn good.

RE: NCAA Sat Thoughts
Texas doesn't look like they have the gas to beat ACU. Really ugly offense. This may be the Big 12 team that loses a game.

Pac-12 racking up the credits. B1G actually doing fine, despite the embarrassing Ohio State loss, 6-3 overall.

Looks like 6 P12, 6 B1G, 6 B12 getting through to the round of 32. That's half the schools left out of three conferences.

Note, I am really unimpressed with how poorly Texas utilizes Sims. Smart should do better with that talent.

Not that I give a crap (and I don't), but noticed the randomness of who wins in the NIT. Two of each seed (1,2, 3, 4) advanced.

How did ACU get a half billion dollar endowment?

Nah the refs are giving the Horns all the chances in the last minute.

Big 12: 7-0
PAC 12: 6-0
Big 10: 6-3
SEC: 4-2
ACC: 2-5

Impressive showing for the West Coast and Southwest/Plains.

Editorial Comment: This is the least buzz I can remember about the tournament in my 9 years on the board. I'm not sure what that means, but it isn't good!
Obviously attendance can't be used as a yardstick of general interest, although I suppose we can see what the TV ratings end up being as one measure.

But it doesn't surprise me. Last year taught us that we can live without the tournament, and it has been a weird season with empty arenas and team and player pauses due to the pandemic. It still feels far from "normal".

There's also no escaping the impact of social change. For some any insertion of social issues into sports detracts from its traditional role of being an arena (no pun intended) where people escape from more serious issues of the day. For others, if that's not a central theme it's a cause for concern. There are probably fans on either side of that divide who are tuning out. Whether that's reflected in board interactions I couldn't say.

I dunno, Texas throwing bricks. Have not seen a call I disagree with (I'm rooting for the game to end, I don't care who wins). We are watching two exhausted teams chocking. It's just who chokes more.

Then you aren't paying attention. They called a tie up on Abilene when they were on the floor with the ball asking for a time out. They called a tie up for Texas when they fouled Abilene on the sideline. And they ignored the trip on Miller's drive.

But Stu 2 free throws does it. Abilene wins!

What a crazy year for upsets. Don’t recall so many low seeds upsetting the high seeds.

only have 10 lower seeds winning at all.

Had 1 12 seed win, 2 13's win, a 14, and a 15. It's a bit more- but not by too much.

Yeah I saw that. I heard somebody calling it, but I didn't see anyone signalling time out.

As a long time basketball coach, I know you need

1) the refs vision on somebody making the gesture
2) somebody making the gesture

They completely tune out voice commands. It's annoying, but it's what they do. If you notice ACU's coach did not complain about it. And ACU kept possession anyway, the arrow was in their direction.

Actually it's pretty normal. 20 of the top 25 seeds won, an 80% clip, which is pretty normal. 4 of the bottom 20 (one bid conference teams) won, which is 20%, also pretty normal.

8 of the middle 23 advanced, which is just about 33%, again pretty normal.
