Ben Braun — Come on Down!!!
You are only 67 sir. By Presidential standards, you’ve got another 8 years in the tank.
Come home!

Some people probably think I’m kidding here. I’m not.
John Beilein is one of the most popular coaches on the market, and he is 69.
Ben probably won’t come here because he loves life in California. But I would call him and ask.

As someone who lived in Ypsilanti and visits California... (no comment).

RE: Ben Braun — Come on Down!!!
Coaches like athletes come to a point where they lack the fire in their belly and ability to adapt and compete and their performance is diminished.
Some realize this like Bill Cowher, Bo Schembechler and Ron Oestrike for example. Others like Bob Knight, Les Miles and Steve Hawkins stay too long and their reputations become tarnished. Ben hit the wall midway through his career at California and later got fired from Rice as well, it happens.
EMU should seek advice from him about finding the "next Ben Braun", his guidance would be far more valuable than Lloyd Carr's who got us Ron English.
Actually I think EMU has not recognized Braun's accomplishments to the extent that they should have been. When you attend a game at the Convo, you see no reference to Ben at all and that is a shame. The Convo is the "house that Ben built". While I am not sure about naming the building after him like we did for Oak, he still merits a statue, the court named after him or at the least a banner from the rafters.

Everyone (usually) has the feeling when it is time to go (except politicians - they go when they hear stories about being in God's waiting room).
Braun's time is long past.
Jerry: I might be 100% wrong, but shouldn't a coach have coached on the court before it is named after him?
IF Braun had stayed around a few more years, then definitely yes.

He's the godfather. You gotta make that call out of respect if for no other reason.

Good point. You're probably not going to woo him back to Ypsilanti, but he might be able to provide Weatherbee with some solid input as to how to approach the process, and might even be engaged to support the process. I have to believe there are some guys out there who would pick up the phone and at least have an introductory conversation ("Hey...this guy Scott is going to be reaching out to you...take his call,") about the position if it were Ben calling.

The most important thing is that Weatherbe connects to the BB coaching network and understands who's who, who has baggage, who is respected, etc.
