There are only a handful of strong basketball programs that are members of leagues that are "inferior" in relation to those programs. We all know them: Gonzaga, BYU, New Mexico State, Murray, Belmont, Cincinnati, Houston, Memphis, Temple, Wichita State, UNLV, New Mexico and Dayton. Maybe Davidson. Maybe Loyola. Maybe Saint Louis. Maybe UTEP, Western Kentucky and Charlotte in C-USA. The reality is ... where do these programs go? Most, if not all, are stuck in their respective league homes.
You do realize that UNT has won the last two C-USA Championships, and will be playing Purdue in the NCAA Tournament tomorrow. Also, North Texas is the host university for this year's NIT. Maybe UNT is a basketball program on the rise and should be included with those other C-USA programs.

I hugely respect UNT. I have a good friend who got his degree in jazz studies from the university (UNT has an elite music program; full credit and respect). And the football history/tradition is very solid. My late aunt and uncle lived in Dallas (and Plano, Allen and Caddo Mills) and always spoke highly of the University of North Texas. I have a friend who lived in Denton. No disrespect.
But Charlotte has a Final Four appearance, is a "basketball-centric athletics program" and is the top university in the city of Charlotte. So I give UNCC the edge in terms of men's hoops over the University of North Texas basketball.

Their Final Four appearance is a nice historic accomplishment, but it was over 40 years ago, and I don't think it is relevant to the current quality of their program. UNT posted 3 consecutive 20 win seasons and won the CBI title, before this COVID shortened season that has us in the Dance. And, we are not a "basketball-centric athletic program". We have a holistic approach to athletics, and want to be successful in all of our sports. Last week our soccer team beat Oklahoma, our volleyball team swept Texas Texas, and our Men's golf team is currently ranked 23 in the nation. Plus I honestly don't see how their university's national ranking is relevant to the quality of basketball they play. But for the record, Charlotte is ranked like 227, while UNT is ranked like 248. Not a big difference in my opinion.
Ten years ago I would have given Charlotte the edge in basketball, but I just can't concede that today. I just don't think they have a better program at this point, and I think the results over the last few years prove it.

You very well might be correct. I'm looking at it from a very general perspective. I know UTEP and WKU are the "big two" in men's hoops in C-USA. And I left out UAB, which has been rather strong over the years. And I remember when Charlotte was competitive in C-USA when it had Memphis and Cincy. Beyond that (and I'm a Middle Tennessee grad) I don't know too much. I know ODU and LaTech have enjoyed some strong seasons in women's hoops.
Again, I give UNT full credit.

Bill, click on your username in the top right corner. Takes you to your control panel.
On the left side, find "edit options." There's a little grey gear next to it.
Find "messages and notifications." It's the 2nd box down on the page. In there is a list, the third item is "Receive private messages from other users." Make sure that box is checked.

Fan bases and historical success go to WKU, UTEP, Charlotte and UAB in CUSA. Recent struggles or recent success are transitory.

Maybe I'm wrong but what C-USA program (other than Western) has the history/fan base/recognized players and coaches of UTEP?
The Miners have appeared in 17 NCAA Tournaments and were the 1966 National Champions. Their combined record is 14–16.

Y'all do realize that UAB is the only program from that list that has won either a regular season or tournament basketball title since C-USA 3.0 came together in 2013. All of C-USA 3.0's history is fairly recent. And, in that time frame an argument could be made that North Texas basketball has accomplished as much or more than every program on that list.
