Monday Musings
March Madness begins this week even though one teams coach wanted it pushed back until May (Pitno & Iona) and I would take Pitno in Ypsi but last I remembered his wife does not like Washtenaw County.
I think our AD is holding out on Murphy to make sure EMU is not needed in Indy as we are Team 200 on the Covid list...
Baseball opens up MAC play this week.
I know people are mad about the Tigers only having 1000 fans but I challenge you to find 1000 people who will watch that team play on a Tuesday night vs the royals in April.
FCS football on ESPN 2 can catch my attention but a lot of it seems poor. Deion Sanders to FSU by 2025???

#200 on the COVID list, now that was hilarious 03-lmfao

And you’re right about the Tigers. Social distancing shouldn’t be too hard for a couple months. No one will go to the random day game on a “45 and windy” Thursday. Especially not to see this team. Going to be a long year.

Yeah, I thought the state should have capped the Tigers at say 15K and that would be good for the April and May or maybe all games except the NY Yankees.

Seriously, I'm being geeky but a lot of teams should be allowed say 7,500 for April. 10K for May, 15K for June and maybe 25K starting July 4 (Where did I get July 4th. Oh, I heard it on TV Thursday night).

I'm the big optimist on Covid. I followed what I thought/think was/is a seasonal trend as cases increased significantly in Fall and went through the roof during the heart of winter and the holidays.

By next fall we should be at say 75 - 85% vaccinated.* That means that if the vaxes are working, as we believe they are, the pandemic is in the rear view mirror.

As Dr. Fauci says, "if the virus doesn't replicate, it can't mutate."

* And remember, we have (and will have) many millions who have post infection immunity.

So some will get the shot(s) while others will opt to get their immunity the 'hard way.'

So by the start of the next school year the % of those with some type of immunity could easily be 90+ I'd guess. I don't think the virus can survive those odds. It will dead end. Hubby comes home with covid but can't infect his wife because she has been vaccinated. Two weeks he test negative. Case closed.

I was traveling back to D.C. yesterday and missed the Prime time special JSU in a walk.

I saw the JSU / Grambling game a week ago and it was very good. Really hard hitting.

Next Fall JSU could be the best team in college football outside the Power Five conferences. JSU has La. Monroe on their schedule in Sept. That could be a rout.

The amount of talent Coach Prime will have is ridiculous. Most of his new talent won't be able to play until fall. Can't double dip on 2020 seasons - play FBS in the fall; transfer and play FCS in the spring. That's a no-no.

Coach Prime will put FCS on the map. Looking forward to JSU vs. N. Dakota State in the FCS championship next January.

Coach B to IU (Indiana)??? The job is now open.

https://twitter.com/GoodmanHoops/status/...87052?s=20

Maybe we should hire Archie Miller. 500K per year plus we'll name a building after him.

Or maybe 'Archie Miller Court' at the Convo. Lol.

Don't even need to win a game. Part of your contract...

Absolutely offer it to him.........He's a great coach with a good reputation! Indiana basketball isn't what it used to be either! Look at John Groce........But, what Underwood is doing at Illinois is really special!

If you guys want to get rid of Murphy, pay up (like IU boosters did):

Who here is getting ready to sign a 6-figure check? Raise your hand.

I would look at Indiana asst Mike Roberts 375 to 400k would probably do the trick

If we can't afford the 100k buyout for Murphy we should close down the entire organization- seriously
The two situations have nothing in common.
We know we can't count on a check from you after the Chad Bush incident or so you said

RE: Monday Musings
Miller had significant time on his contract with Indiana hence a 10 million dollar plus buyout. Financed by private dollars.
Murphy has months to go 100k buyout.

BINGO! '79 is spot on once again.

Comparing Miller-Indiana and Murphy-EMU is apples to oranges, the sport is the ONLY common denominator. The money involved is not even close!

Just a side note: When will the "entitled" fan bases of Indiana and UCLA basketball, Michigan, USC and Texas football realize that the world has changed, there no longer a blueblood guarantee of success.

Unfortunately, as I tried to indicate, folks at B1G, etc. schools they do things 10 or 25 times what we do financially. We pay a coach 450K. They pay 450k x 10 (I assume Harbaugh makes a ton).

100k is probably the state income tax Harbaugh pays each 6 months.

We draw 10K for a FB game and UofM draw 100K+ at astronomical prices.

Agree on the entitled. Yes, there are still blueblood schools out there. As they say, "Money talks and Miller walks..." (that's a paraphrase.)

Coach B is likely for IU, Archie is not in the conversation for EMU. The previously fired IU basketball coach is now coaching at Georgia for 3.2M a year.
