If you guys get Covid, Georgia State goes, so I know at least one team hoping you get sick...

Can’t be sure of that now... once the field is announced, it’s the NCAA’s call on who would sub in. Could be anyone they want, they aren’t bound to take another member of the conference. Only way the SB had any say was if someone fell COIVD before the bracket release.

No, the conference chooses the replacement for an AQ. The NCAA chooses the replacement for those who are at large teams.

I didn’t realize one bid conferences were being treated differently. Thanks.

Unfortunately, the season ends against Gonzaga.

Yes, it does. But if they can beat Norfolk State they'll have the honor of saying they play the Top Seed of the tourney.

LOL.

We get a play in game - and if you win that you get to play the only undefeated team in the nation (and a clear #1 rank and #1 seed). Freakin' awesome! :(

BUT, if we manage to beat Gonzaga - HOLY SH##!

So by definition, AppSt taking down Gonzaga would be the biggest possible upset of the Tourney.

But if you had to lay down good money, who is everyone’s biggest upset they’re taking?

I’m taking 13 Liberty over 4 Oklahoma St. Which barely beats out liking 12 Winthrop over 5 Nova.

NSU will be a tough game. That said I don’t mind the chance (should we get there) of taking on Gonzaga. Everyone expects either us or NSU to lose by 30 anyways and in all likelihood that’ll be the result.

But how many times has a Sun Belt team ever played the #1 team in the country? I’m 99% sure App never has. Great treat for the players to get the opportunity. I know they’ll be excited, us or NSU.

It’s a very shrunk down NIT, but would have like for them to keep the process of taking all conference regular season winner that didn’t go dancing, and build the brackets from there.

But it’s a weird year, so it is what it is.

App plays Norfolk State at 8:40 pm ET on Thursday Night in Bloomington. The game will be on TruTV

If they win, they'll play the late game Saturday night against Gonzaga from the Pacers Home court at Bakers Life Fieldhouse. That game would be on TBS."

The biggest change this year is they aren't doing pods. No team will play on the same court until the Elite Eight on, which are all at Lucas Oil Stadium. To accommodate this, 2nd round locations won't be announced until Saturday.

That actually does hurt a little to see it laid out like that.

Glad the Belt has a decent shot at a tourney victory, and looking forward to the announcers talking about App vs. Michigan when they face Gonzaga.

Maybe I'm wrong (I frequently am) but as a USA fan I've lost count of how many (if any) of our teams lost game 1 in the NCAAs to the eventual champ. Anybody have that number handy?

I’m not sure if that is a Sun Belt thing or just a USA thing.

I haven't done my bracket yet (nor entirely memorized it yet) but early on I'm intrigued by 12 Winthrop. We played a good game against them this year but I remember we could not stop their offense. Liberty has a good shot but I'm not feeling it just because of Cade Cunningham. He's easily a top 5 player in the country. Also, keep an eye on UNCG. They have a pretty tough full court defense.

This is a good dose of reality for those of you complaining that a crappy App State team won the league. The whole league sucked this year guys. Don't single us out because we played the best when it matted.

Guys, you really want to feel pain??? Belmont went 26-4, 18-2 in conference, but lost in the conference championship game, and they are not going dancing.

I remember the days of 20 wins was almost a given you were going dancing, now apparently 26 wins don’t even get you in.

It’s only gotten worse for the smaller conferences every year for quite some time now. There are next to zero two-bid (because the reg season champ lost in conf tourney finals) conferences anymore.

It’s past time we send regular season champs as our representative. Better and bigger body of work. Better chance to advance past round one. Means money, and building reputation.

You don’t get a 13 seed like Liberty, or a 12 seed like Winthrop, if you haven’t been there before in the immediate past. A solid team with a two/three year run is the best thing that can happen to a small conference.

Can’t risk missing out on that because someone upsets the apple cart in a single elimination Conf tourney. (No offense specifically to App St this particular year.) There is no more margin for error any more, it’s about time the conference understands that.

Play a conference tourney for pride and a trophy.

I just see a lot of whining.

No media deal will ever let a conference NOT have a conference tournament. Too much TV inventory to lose out on.
