KPJ, thanks for pulling this info together!

for anyone looking for where alum are playing overseas, this is the best resource that i know of - https://www.usbasket.com/team/MAC/Easter...490?Page=4

Is there any info on what money these guys make? The reason I ask is that Morgan, Montero and Groce all mentioned that they intended to play basketball professionally next year. It is of course their decision, but I am intrigued with respect to their future.

EMU is in the business of career preparation, athletics are indeed an avenue for such endeavors but much like a female stripper, the career window is a truncated one. Just wondering.

Jerry I believe overseas leagues are a bit like minor leagues in baseball. There are different levels with pay increasing as you move up. Europe is the best pay at the top league levels. Generally at the top level the team pays for your housing, your car as well as your salary. My high school acquaintance Tom Scheffler (6'11, Purdue) played 10 years in Italy where he still resides and came back to play for the Portland Trail Blazers for one year and took a pay cut to do so. He just wanted to say he had played in the NBA. He played for the same team as Minnie is playing for.

there are worse lives to live than to make low 7 figures a year to live in italy or spain or germany. and lets not forget how much money china is throwing at players from the states too. id rather be over there than playing for the fort wayne mad antz or bakersfield jam.

Hi All-
Found a good chart for European salaries. Short answer: it really depends on the division and country.

The low leagues do not pay well--but neither do many other first-out-of-school jobs.

Fabulous post! Thanks Sir Tom, you are far more adept at internet research than I.

It still appears that an overseas career in basketball is potentially far more lucrative than a minor league endeavor in US baseball. Sam Delaplane, for example is still slogging it out in the minors with his only future career path being the MLB, which is unlikely. At least basketball players have a fallback option not available to baseball aspirants.

Thanks for the info! I remember Scheffler, he was the poor man's Bill Laimbeer, an absolute beast in the paint. He, however, did not shoot like wild Bill.

That said, you are NOT going to move to a foreign country to play for what Triple A baseball players do here. The fact that Tom still lives there is extremely powerful. He apparently found his home and I think everyone will agree that Purdue served him well as a result. Win-Win, no matter how you look at it.

Tom was and is a,class individual. My parents and his mom see each other time to time. Real class act family. Tom got his, teaching degree from Purdue. He teaches English in Italy. Don't forget Tom's younger brother Steve who had a good professional career as well.
