RE: Breaking News
I won’t tap dance on Murphy’s grave like some will on here. He was an improvement over his predecessor and gave us some wins to be very proud of. I’ll never forget that Michigan game, as gross as it was in hindsight. Nor being at the Purdue game for that dramatic win.

At the end of the day, he couldn’t replace James Thompson or Boubacar Toure this year, and it cost him an extension. People will harp on the 2-3 zone, but Murphy’s complete lack of offense and questionable in-game rotation decisions did us in over the years more than anything. We had MAC championship talent, but never did better than 3rd in the conference. Disappointing, but way better than the Ramsey years.

I look forward to a new direction for the program.

RE: Breaking News
Rob had some decent years here just not enough of them. Was like a cat with nine lives here at EMU. Hopefully we get the job officially posted. I am both excited and scared about a new coach. We face a major rebuild with the program.

RE: Breaking News
I agree. Murphy did improve things in the program. And I'll always be thankful for being in the building for the Michigan and Purdue wins. But the past few seasons were simply sub-par products especially considering the talent. The zone is dying out as a singular defensive scheme. Syracuse is no where near what they used to be either. But in the end I agree with Sam. It was the lack of OFFENSE that cost us more games. It never got better over the latter half of his tenure. And it certainly wasn't "fan-friendly" to watch.

I'm excited to have something to get excited about. I haven't felt excited about this program in a few years. Here's hoping Smith and Wetherbee make the best hirings of their lifetimes.

And best of luck to Rob Murphy. I'm sure he'll find himself a great job. I've already seen tons of Syracuse fans on twitter begging for him to come back as an assistant. They really miss his recruiting ability. Plus I'm sure he'll end up much closer to his family in NY state.

Here's the tweet: https://twitter.com/GoodmanHoops/status/...0138201089 I take this to mean "Murphy won't be renewed but we haven't had the meeting to tell him yet."

Reporting from other sources says the decision was made weeks ago.

Do contracts expire on March 31?

Like “verbal commitments,” nothing is official until it’s official.

My guess it might something to do with ending his contract w/out firing. Who will run the program until a new coach is hired, etc.

These are technical and legal issues.

E.g. is he on unpaid leave until the end of March?

This isn't "You're fired. Clean out your desk..."

When I retired from the Fed. Government I had to get between 12 - 15 signatures.

Also I'm sure the meeting is more complicated than a simple handshake and saying "Thanks for your hard work. Goodbye."

I'm sure Murphy's agent and EMU's lawyers must be present. They may also be working on a settlement that's different from the scheduled payments in Murphy's contract. That happens often even in the MAC (Bowden at Akron, for example).

I'm going to guess they don't need security to escort him out. he was an alright coach and hey - that's alright.

RE: Breaking News
Everyone predict one name who they honestly think will be the next head coach! Not who you want, but realistically who it might be! I want Earl Boykins, but his job at Arkansas is already a good job! I think it'll be Charles or Carl Thomas, why they'll accept the salary! We won't pay what Akron gave Gross, or what Ohio U gave Boland! That's why I see it being one of them! Unless it's A D2 coach moving up! Thoughts Everyone! Wish Murphy nothing but the best, he knew 10 years without winning A MAC championship is simply too long!

Yes I agree the past three seasons were hard to watch.
