Remember when we won the division then lost on the Monday to NIU?
Remember when we were a multi-bid league?
Remember when...
Well the MAC is going to send a team with the FIFTH best winning percentage to the NCAA tourney this year. Ohio will likely provide a first round bye for Virginia. Some questions:
The MAC performance in the NCAA tournament sans Nate Oats' Buffalo may have solidified it as a Horizon type league, just a ceremonial like participant. Absent an historical EMU, Buffalo or Kent St performance are we much more?
Toledo was clearly the MAC's best team. They likely will get a NIT invite as a result. The virus may change this, but the NIT invites and schedules teams based on attendance figures, in the past Toledo would play a sub-par Indiana in their crowd packed house and of course lose. Is this fair?
The Big Ten conference tournament packs hotel rooms in the host city and generates a whole lot of TV revenue as well. The MAC, however, does not. Do we really need a conference tourney?
Would the MAC be better off playing a full round robin and then sending the team with the best record to the NCAA tournament instead of the fifth best as we are doing this year?
Toledo AND Buffalo in the NIT. Well-deserved. It’s great to see the MAC getting love.

Good point Cow! They both deserve it. Unfortunately I think the MAC is only seeing this "love" because the NIT is playing at a single location where the small crowd sizes at MAC arenas don't matter and many more prominent programs opted out.

Am I right that the NIT is only 16 teams this year?
Starts tomorrow with an ESPN2 game.

Yep. Only 16 teams. I’m presuming there’s no CIT or CBI this year.

Yeah...as a Spartan alum it hurt to see that and the total meltdown that followed in the second half. Been a rough season for Spartan Basketball.

Murphy is not a "bench meanie"--honestly never heard that term before--he is more of a "bench passive agressive guy" example: I'm mad at you Ray Lee, so I am going to play you 5 minutes tonight and we will lose. That'll show you!

BobW, should Izzo be sat down for a game or two?
The story of Bobby Knight and Woody Hayes is that their actions went unchecked too long until...

No I don't think so. Look, Gabe Brown missed the switch. Gabe Brown then made things worse by yelling at his coach before he got in the locker room and tried running up the tunnel. Izzo had to grab his shirt to continue his coaching moment. My take is that this particular MSU team was not mentally strong enough to withstand typical Izzo coaching. Tom knows that better than anyone, he should have let that go and he couldn't. The team unraveled in the second half as a result.
Bobby Knight was flat out verbally and physically abusive. He was a bully and Woody Hayes punched a player, Charlie Baumann of Clemson. I'll never forget that.
Izzo is going to have to adjust his coaching. He is becoming a dinosaur. The tough minded players will take the coaching and get better (Aaron Henry) others won't. I actually felt worse for Izzo, getting disrespected by a player on live TV. That can't happen.

We can put Ron English in that category.
