Cram the Convo...NIU WBB WINS! Moves up
The "Cram the Convo" event today begins with WBB hosting Western Michigan at 1 p.m., also on ESPN3.

NIU is 10-13 (7-8 MAC) and WMU is 14-9 (8-6 MAC). NIU is in 7th place; WMU is tied with Kent State for 4th.

An NIU win AND losses by both Bowling Green (hosting Ohio) and Ball State (@ Toledo) could boost NIU as high as 6th. (Losses by KSU and WMU would not drop them below NIU).

CURRENT STANDINGS (MAC/overall):

Toledo (14-1/20-4)
Buffalo (11-4/17-8)
Akron (9-5/12-8)
Kent State (8-6/16-7)
WMU (8-6/14-9)
Ball State (7-8/14-9)
BGSU (7-7/12-11)
NIU (7-8/10-13)
----- current MACT cutoff -----
Ohio (6-7/12-10)
Miami-O (4-11/8-16)
EMU (3-13/6-16)
CMU (2-13/4-20)

Sad to say, don't know. Was stuck with radio and stats for this one. That's why only posted scores. I don't do comments any more when I can't see anything. Have to wait for the "official" count I guess.

Note added: official attendance was 660

Thanks, crowd on TV for the MBB looks pretty good. Always anxious that NIU will underreport attendance as I feel they have in football many times (or at least we're counting differently than the EMU's of the world).

I've always felt that NIU represents a more accurate attendance than many other schools. I'm not sure why, then again, I'm not sure the benefit over-inflating the reported numbers does when everyone knows you're lying.

Also, fwiw, from tv, I haven't noticed yet if the upper level is open or if they just "crammed" everyone into the lower level.

RE: Cram the Convo...today...NIU WINS!
Well, it is called Cram the Convo ...

FYI ... a couple-three years ago the Northern Star did an FOIA and "discovered" NIU was spending a ton of money buying up football tickets to qualify under the NCAA's 15,000 average rule. Since then, IMO, NIU has been pretty straight about counting. This rule isn't really enforced, or so I've heard, but for a while NIU was worried about it. There is no such attendance average rule for basketball that I'm aware of.

I think EMU counts everything including "seats" on top the flagpoles.

Fwiw, this came up after the last game. But I'm pretty sure, once again, Chris Osten is not on the bench.

I don't recall when he vanished, but he hasn't played in a game since January 15th.

Obviously, he's not all that good but, with NIU losing both Makuoi and Okanu after the season, if they don't have Osten coming back, they have Montavious Myrick as the only post player returning.

Getting back to wbb ...

Toledo beat Ball State.

Ohio beat Bowling Green.

So ... NIU is 8-8, BSU is 7-9 and BGSU is 7-8 in conference.

NIU moves up to 6th from 8th place.

Maybe Chris Osten is practicing with Martice Mitchell.
