I'm certainly not surprised with not forecasting a long run. But giving a 1-6 UNCW a 67% chance to beat us just seems...aggressive.

UNCW has a scoring margin of +4 PPG and we are -8 against similar strength of schedule. Analytics types will tell you that 67% on those numbers is actually low, under normal circumstances.

Then again, they have played once since January and we've played twice so...gamblers are probably not really gonna know what to make of it.

RE: 2021 CAA tournament
I just want the Tribe to beat UNCW, otherwise it is 3 straight years without a tourney win. This would result in awful flashbacks to the pre-2008 era of Tribe hoops.

I just hope the Tribe is "rebuilding" and not returning the "old normal" of first game tourney flame outs year after year.

The team will either show up trying to win the whole thing or they are going to mail it in. I sure hope the former. Having been on a team that went very far in the tourney, NCAAs, it's an experience that is really hard to replicate. One of the best couple of weeks in my life to be honest.

RE: 2021 CAA tournament
Coach likes how we have practiced going into the tourney. UNCW website shows Phillips played his first game of the year for them and scored 11 points in 22 minutes against Elon. Also appears they have another good player coming back for the tourney so this is no bottom feeder or 10 seed. Tough game which will be a good test for our freshmen!

I am not naïve. No team wants to have to play in the play in round because it means that you have to win 4 straight games in order to cut down the nets. And we certainly got a chance first hand to see how hard that was in 2008, when our Tribe had about 3.5 games in their legs when they needed 4 ( I still want to throw up every time that I hear Living on a Prayer on the radio). But I am not so sure that Saturday's winners are going to be at nearly as great of a disadvantage as they have in past years. I think that whatever disadvantage the Saturday winners will have in already having a game's worth of mileage on their legs is going to more than be made up by actually having had a chance to actually play a game the night before. I certainly cannot believe that JMU is looking forward to playing the Elon/Towson winner on Sunday.

By the way, did anyone else notice the one other suttle change that the CAA has made to the Sunday schedule. The 1 vs 8/9 game is the second game of the afternoon session, not the first. The Top seed always plays the first game.

I think it is going to be worse than before in terms of fatigue because so many teams aren't in playing shape including us. Depth is going to be very important.

I predict that Kochera and Covington are going to go off in game one.

UNCW hasn’t played since 1/31? If I read that correctly, that’s certainly an advantage for the Tribe.

Oops, they did play one game end of Feb.

Do they have enough players to field a team, or will Joey D put the tourney on hold until they’re ready to play?

Yuri is getting absolutely jobbed on foul calls and I hope some of these start going his way starting tonight.

By going off,I hope you mean getting to the rim and not settling for the 3's UNCW will be giving them.

Free throws will win it for us.not the 3.

Spring 2023, unless they go out of business or we leave the conference first. Fingers crossed for either or both.

A study of this chart seems to reveal that Yuri drives to the basket more than most guards but getting a lot less free throws!

In our game at GW, the announcer very appropriately characterized Yuri having amazing quickness but lacking the experience to adjust his speed to the situation thus creating too many fouls or TO.

Sadly my guess is the lack of FT maybe related to being out of control at a higher frequency?

On the positive side both Blair and Mehkel ranked well on the chart!

RE: 2021 CAA tournament
Elon crushes Towson 69-48. Think that they may take down JMU tomorrow afternoon in the 1-8 game!

Betting line has us a 4 point underdog to UNCW at 7pm. Elon beat UNCW last week by 3 points at the buzzer.

To me, going off means that they will have big games. I really don't care how they score. If Covington can score 15 or more and keep the turnovers under 3 we have a good chance to frustrate their guards and give Loewe some space to score.
