A top 4 finish is not that bad compared to the old days.

With so many conferences dropping minor sports, I am glad to see it survive.
Good luck at the NCAA's. We did manage 4 guys getting in. That pretty good for a team that always have a disadvantage in this sport.

I would love to see at least one all american this year.

Go Brit and the rest of the qualifiers.

Outstanding effort…

RE: Wrestling
Wrestling picked 3rd in the MAC pre-season.

Missouri wrestling has left the MAC and returned to the BIG XII, so the conference should be pretty wide-open. Missouri had won the conference title all nine years they participated in the MAC.

Didn’t know this, when did that happen?

So, Texas leaves the Big12 and everyone who left previously is all of a sudden okay with being in the Big12. Ha.

It was announced back in April.

In looking at the conference, it's interesting to see lesser known schools in Div. 1 Athletics.
Since most of these schools are located in the Northeast, I am assuming that Collegiate Wrestling was a regional sport and when the NCAA was formed, these schools were top programs in the sport.

Actually, almost every university had a wrestling team prior to Title IX. Once Title IX was implemented, it decimated collegiate wrestling. As you stated, "lesser known Div. 1" schools still have wrestling. The main reason is because they don't have Football programs. Much easier to be in compliance with Title IX when you don't have a football program offsetting the equity.

Title IX was great for the advancement of women's athletics but it has destroyed opportunities in mens sports (wrestling, men's gymnastics, and many others)

I applaud NIU for backing their wrestling program for all these years. The easy option would of been to axe the program a long time ago. Actually, this years team should be competing for the MAC title. Coach Ludwig runs a class act operation!

For the record and not meaning to be an ass, you must mean Title IX.
It was indeed necessary for the advancement of women's athletics but women's athletics did not destroy opportunities for men's sports, the penny-pinching we-must-protect-football-at-all-costs ADs destroyed those opportunities. Ironically and quite sadly, all those male ADs running college programs at that time had no better idea on how to make things work than to cut traditional men's sports like wrestling, gymnastics, and swimming. As an old fart, no disrespect but Schaefer Beer must be quite young to not know that at one time, every university in this state (ISU, SIU, WIU, EIU, CSU, SIU-E) had wrestling as did all the original MAC members. The same could nearly be said of men's gymnastics.

Thank you for accusing me of being young. I only wished it was true. Quote honestly, I always just assumed all college schools had wrestling programs. I did not know they got axed. My surprise was MAC conference schools like Clarion, Edinboro, and Bloomsburg had Div. 1 programs.
And to tell you how old I am while we are talking about wrestling, I used to crank Lunatic Fringe from the movie Vision Quest from my freshman dorm room at Douglas.
Linda Fiortino was so hot from that movie...and she is still hot today.
