This is horrible timing. I think at full strength GT had a real shot at the Sweet 16.

They'll be bounced in Round 1 because they don't have somebody to guard Krutwig now. If that somehow doesn't happen they'll super duper be bounced in Round 2.

I keep waiting for news that Pastner has been extended. I guess that's coming after the final four.

I think that rides HEAVILY on who is coming back. You get Alvarado and Wright and Usher back? That's a Top 25 team that now has a real bench to go to. That's a great recipe. If it's a wipe out of the senior class? Next year will be ugly. That would lead to a race between Pastner's ability to coach up that recruiting class and bring in help and his contract. Which has already dropped to "just" $3m to buyout.

Can you re-detail the Pastner saga for those of us too lazy to look up the details?

I guess. I get coming to the point of hating a coach. God knows we had that with Herb Sendek. Wasn't ron the guy involved with black mail and some sort of affair?

What if all the seniors come back?
What if none of the seniors come back?

How about this one, what if Pastner turns out to be a good coach and leads GT to be a regular top 15 team making the Final four multiple times? I wouldn't automatically be apoplectic pissed off if he is re-signed. Maybe it just took him a little while to establish his recruiting chops at GT.

Blackmail using recruiting violations he himself committed, among other things.

The summary you seek is Post #15 in this thread.
https://csnbbs.com/thread-917332-post-17...id17331782

Pastner has won at a way way way lower clip than Sendek. And had off the court issues. And has a dozen or so *seriously egregrious* losses and no wins against UGAg.

Bubba Parham and Michael Devoe are coming back for another year. If Josh Pastner can get the other three to stay he has himself a bona fide extension without controversy.

Thanks for the update Swag.

As to Sendek, what you seem to forget is that Sendek never won anything, ever. Winning percentage in basketball means squat. Championships matter.

RE: Josh Pastner
I think the next few years is coach Pastner best chance to make a splash among ACC coaches. Duke/SU/UNC/Miami/FSU will be losing their legendary coaches. Right now Tony Bennet has a hold as the #1 coach especially with those 3 soon gone. If coach Pastner can’t do it now during this period of transition he never will IMO. The coaches at VT/ND/Pitt/NCSU are all unproven. GT this is your window strike now while we enter this transitioning period. I think he can outcoach what remains besides Bennet when the old timers retire

RE: Josh Pastner
Moses Wright is going to the NBA and not coming back. Pastner better peer into that massive transfer portal and pull out a legitimate big post player or next season they'll just walk everything right back. The 7-footer from Eastern Europe needs at least one more year of development.
