RE: 2021 baseball season
Congrats to the mustard buzzards on the win last night. I went to bed at the end of the 6th down only one and woke up to a 4-1 loss. Your guys did what they had to do and that's keep us from crossing the plate. It was a well earned victory and I think the world of coach Ostrander. I got to know him when he was here in Ruston. He has done a marvelous job of developing your pitching talent. I can now only hope to get another shot at you guys on Saturday.

Baseball America updated hosts has USM as the 16 seed hosting Florida State, LSU, and Northeastern. Talk about an impossible ticket.

RE: 2021 baseball season
And crazy part about regionals this year with Super regional sites predetermined that based off D1 regional PROJECTIONS this "could" be some of the Super Regionals with sites:

Charlotte vs ECU in Austin, TX
Maryland vs Gonzaga in Nashville, TN
UConn vs Florida in Tucson, AZ
South Carolina vs Oregon in South Bend, IN
Florida St vs UC Irvine in Starkville, MS

I realize there is a Covid protocol that's in place for just this year but there will be some awkward Super Regionals in 2 weekends

I would gladly lose to you in the Tournament Final. That would mean we beat USM twice and are likely hosting. I'm not greedy

That works for me, but I doubt you would stick to it if both teams were in the final. 04-cheers

RE: 2021 baseball season
Generally, our coach is a by the book skipper, so I look for Etheridge to be our starter at 12:30 today. If it was me, and it is not of course, I would start our normal #4 starter, a lefty, in the first game (Boyd)

ODU is playing hard to make his hope of a LTech/USM rematch? How does that work?

He probably overlooked the "Saturday" mentioned and was assuming pilot was talking about possible rematch in the finals with LT.

I incorrectly assumed that ODU and USM would be playing today as the only two unbeaten teams, and the loser would have to play a second game today, potentially against Tech if they got by FAU who i assumed would be playing today in the first elimination game. Should be a good game (or two) between your two schools today. Best of luck to both teams and hopefully we will have a good game between ODU and whoever advances to play tomorrow.

RE: 2021 baseball season
Rumors/reports that USM SP Gabe Shepard has left the team. He came here in 2019 with a past of TJ surgery and slowly worked his way back throughout that season and was the starter in the 2019 CUSA-T no-hitter vs Rice. However he never seemed to get "it" back and was mostly ineffective in 2020 and especially 2021 as this past season he had 3 appearances totaling 0.2 innings with an ERA of 81.00 and a batting avg against of .667 04-jawdrop

He had a good summer and was getting back in the groove, but another injury has ended his career. He sure put on a show in the postseason a few years back in the CUSA tourney and then in the LSU regional vs Arizona State. I wish him well in all of his future endeavors.

We also had our best 2022 commit flip to Mississippi State. Bad week for sure.

Southern Miss Director of Athletics Jeremy McClain announces baseball coach Scott Berry has agreed to a contract extension.

Berry, who starts his 13th season as head coach in 2022, owns 435 Southern Miss victories, sitting 34 wins shy of becoming the school's all-time leader.

Over the last five full seasons, Golden Eagle squads put together 40 or more wins each year, ranking as one of two Division I programs to reach that plateau at least that many seasons (Dallas Baptist has seven).
