RE: 2021 WM Baseball Season
Strain and Campbell(Charleston) both pitching well. Strain out after 6 with the score tied 2-2, but then Charleston has gotten the critical hit with 2 outs in the 7th to take the lead and has blown it open against the bullpen in the 7th(6-2). While the Tribe scored in each of its 2 real opportunities, they were unable to get the big hit to make the inning more than a single run. The winner faces Elon at 3PM. I hope they can rally again here in the late innings.

UNCW and Northeastern battle tonight for a spot in the championship game tonight.

Yes, unfortunately, one of the truisms of baseball is that "when you play for one run then all you will get is one run". Murphy was playing not to lose in that 6th inning instead of realizing that that was probably our team's best chance to score some runs and take a lead. Apparently Murphy's plan was to just "hang in there" against Charleston and hope for a miracle at the end. He didn't realize that the better chance for some miracle runs was right there in the 6th.

RE: 2021 WM Baseball Season
Today's 8-3 season finale loss was not unexpected...we had little consistency both batting and pitching throughout this mediocre
season. Not having a full-time pitching coach hurt quite a bit. The 13-29 final won-loss record was well earned.

We need a pitching coach and an influx of talented young players for next season. Our baseball facilities are first class here at W&M
and, after many good seasons and outstanding players the past 15 years, would hope we bounce back next year.

I saw that Matt McDermott has been playing in the Cape Cod League this summer and that he will be spending his extra year of eligibility playing for Coastal Carolina.
