UVU adds a post player
Tim Fuller the Weber St transfer. Not sure how much time he gets with Cole and Aimaq there. He's 6'9 and 240.

I'm not sure why Verbal Commits shows Fuller as a new recruit now? He has been playing for UVU since early December.

One interesting point. Tim Fuller was the starting center at Weber State over Dima Zdor; who transferred to GCU this season and in comes off the bench for the Lopes. This will be an interesting future match up in the WAC.

I think he's cleared now and that's why VC added him from a commit to on the roster?

I have liked what I have seen from Dima but its such a small sample due to him being hurt most the year to this point. I wonder how Fuller will do at UVU b/c like Dima Fuller has guys in front of him that can play.

Fuller has been getting around 10+ minutes a game. He's a good player when Aimaq or Cole are out. He has a good future for UVU. Cole will be gone next year and Fuller will be fully integrated into the system, so I like his prospects. He's a little smaller, but also a little more versatile than Cole. Remarkably, he graduated from high school in 2016, but is just now a sophomore.

He had 4 rebounds and no points vs GCU in 13 minutes.

Zdor barely got in.

Zdor ever since he's been hurt hardly plays due to Gabe taking those minutes. I'd expect Zdor Gabe and a grad transfer will be GCU's post players getting the most minutes next year. I think Fuller will be a nice option for UVU going forward.

I’ve been watching Pepperdine vs BYU tonight and did some looking at the BYU roster and noticed they have 3 really good transfers from UVU. I’m new to following WAC basketball and don’t know much about UVU, but are they normally a feeder school for BYU? Seems like the guys were very good at UVU, then went on missions and now play for BYU. Please enlighten me as to what’s going on.

The current BYU coach, Mark Pope recruited Brandon Averette, Richard Harward, Wyatt Lowell (along with Jake Toolson who played on last season's BYU team) to Utah Valley a few years ago. However, once Pope took the BYU job, those four players made their way to BYU to follow their former UVU coach. In Pope's last season at UVU, Jake Toolson was selected the 2019 WAC Player of the Year. Toolson then transferred after that season as a grad transfer to play for Pope at BYU. Harward and Lowell also transferred to BYU when Pope took the job there but as underclassmen, they had to sit out last season. And, Brandon Averette was the starting point guard at UVU last season. But also transferred as a grad transfer in the off-season to BYU.

Considering the players that left UVU, it is impressive Mark Madsen had his Wolverine competing for the Regular Season Championship this year; and subsequently finishing as the 2021 WAC Co-Champions along with GCU.

Head coaching change at BYU lead to them hiring the coach before Madsen. He brought players that he had recruited with him to Provo.

But also transferred as a grad transfer in the off-season to BYU.

Considering the players that left UVU, it is impressive Mark Madsen had his Wolverine competing for the Regular Season Championship this year; and subsequently finishing as the 2021 WAC Co-Champions along with GCU.

Not only did Pope take 4 players with him, he also took 2 assistant coaches and the director of bball operations. And he made "promises" to many others. Angry at the situation, three other UVU players also left immediately and are starting at USC, Hawaii & Duquesne. Other players graduated. So quite literally, 12 months after he left UVU, there did not remain a single player, redshirt, assistant coach or staff member who was at UVU under Pope. The program was wiped clean. Madsen had to cobble together a coaching staff, fill a roster with any players he could find, and fill out a schedule last season. This is his first team of real recruits. Not bad.

It sounds like UVU would have been absolutely loaded this year had the coach not left. Makes this year look very impressive.

All of the player transfers is a relatively new phenomena, but taking most if not all of the assistant coaches to the next destination has gone on for years. One of the only less secure jobs than a head coach is an assistant or staff member.
