CAA MBB Transfers 2021
Wow. Big blow to Hofstra and the conference as a whole. Another player of the year candidate departing the CAA.
https://twitter.com/VerbalCommits/status...0055515137

Mid majors losing their top players is certainly starting to look like the new normal

He was already gone. He said a couple months back he was done playing basketball. So the only difference now is that he decided he will continue playing, just not for Hofstra. It was already known he was done at Hofstra though.

I wonder how many CAA teams actually have players returning for the 2021-22 season who were actually seniors during the 2020-21 season but got the extra year of eligibility because of Covid. Luke Loewe, for instance, was our only such player and he will be playing at Minnesota for his extra year.

RE: CAA MBB Transfers 2021
Now that the current year's MBB rosters are pretty much set, some crazy stats are coming to light.

There are 350 colleges now playing Division I men's basketball.

Last year there were approx. 1,740 transfers. Only 12 schools, in the entire country, had NO transfers this year. The University of Richmond (who will have one of the largest rosters in the country in 2021-2022) and Delaware (the only CAA school not to have at least one transfer) were the two closest to us.

The Ivy League (Yale and Dartmouth) was the only league to have two schools with no transfers, so it hit every league across the country pretty hard.

With the passing of the "free year" transfer rule, don't look for the numbers to get any better next season.

Crazy times.

RE: CAA MBB Transfers 2021
5 per team would be 1,750, so 1,740 is almost 5 per team.

A Hofstra fan wrote about the possibility of Hofstra returning only three players, but Jalen Ray, Kvonn Cramer, and Caleb Burgess combined for 50.0 percent of Hofstra's points, 37.6 percent of the rebounds, and 75.8 percent of the assists. It's not often for a team to return two point guards who averaged over 3 assists and over 1.5 assists per turnover, but Ray and Burgess did that. Cramer averaged 8.9 points and 6.7 rebounds while shooting .576, he shot two-pointers .706, and he averaged 0.8 blocks.

That number is the number of kids that dipped their toes in the portal. Though probably not an overwhelming number, a portion of those returned to their current school.

Kante committed to LIU Brooklyn. I don't get that move, but who knows what was going on behind the scenes.

He's from Brooklyn and LIU's hoops, baseball, and softball teams play their home games in Brooklyn (football, hockey and others play on Long Island).

Plus the hoop's head coach is Derek Kellogg, so maybe he recruited Kante when he was in HS.

Yeah, I get going home. I just figured a guy of his size and production would get some interest from P5s to round out their roster.

I agree. And Hofstra is still on Long Island, it's not like he was halfway across the country. Probably helps us, but it is tough to see the CAA lose talent, especially to a low major.

That's why I said perhaps there were issues behind the scenes. He was a CAA all conference player already playing near home. Dropping a level just doesn't make sense.

Keep in mind he quit basketball originally. He only recently decided to play again and jump into the portal. I have to imagine something family related convinced him to play at all and if he were going to play it would be for said family member.

Believe you're confusing Kante with Tareq Coburn, who supposedly stopped to focus on school, then transferred to St. John's?
