The ASUN has definitely mentioned FBS.

Here is the Brad Teague (UCA AD) interview where he really opens up about ASUN, FBS and why everyone left the Southland

It links to a 3 hour video. Do you have a time marker or can you give us a recap of the interview?

Here's a decent recap of what he has to say... basically says the same thing here that he did in that interview.

You may want to link over to this Twitter thread from Craig Haley...

Or this article can help too.

Quote:Neither the ASUN nor the Western Athletic Conference, which two weeks announced it would form an FCS league this year, are at the NCAA minimum of six eligible schools for an automatic qualifying bid to the FCS playoffs. Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky and Jacksonville State are considering playing this fall as WAC associate members in football, which would make that conference eligible for an AQ, and Kennesaw State and North Alabama may remain in the Big South, which has an AQ, through the 2021 season.
The fall scenarios are expected to be announced at an ASUN news conference on Feb. 23 at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.

"They're all being still looked at," ASUN commissioner Ted Gumbart said. "In any case, we're going to print ASUN standings with five schools and pick a player of the week and promote ASUN football, and all of those programs will have the ASUN logo on the field. There will be a little bit of a transition to protect schedules and protect AQ, but we're really pleased that we have great partners that are willing to work with us.

Above nugget comes from Dom Izzo, one of the most respected FCS journalists out there as he asked the MVFC commish what she thinks will become of the FCS playoffs when/if the WAC and ASUN get automatic bids.

Craig Haley was asked about the automatic bid and if the ASUN/WAC situation made any sense. Another Twitter thread worth following?

Couldn't the asun and wac teams play the bulk of their schedule against each other and ooc then the winner in the asun play the wac winner for conference title.

RE: Hybrid ASUN / WAC Football League for '21
Another update.

All signs point to a non-formal relationship between the ASUN & WAC based on the tweet from last night.

We'll know for sure what's going on in the next three weeks as the ASUN did announce that press conference in Atlanta towards the end of the month.

It's all quiet otherwise on WAC, Southland, ASUN, OVC and Big South front as it relates to potential schedule adjustments for fall schedules. They all are impacted by the changes and all will need to share something in the coming weeks. I figure that ASUN announcement at end of February will initiate the release of information, particularly as these leagues (or if not a league yet, their member institutions) will have gotten the start of the spring football behind them.

RE: Hybrid ASUN / WAC Football League for '21
Is the asun wac collaboration one to move to fbs?
A couple years pass the asun and wac schools settle in together.
Then form a new conference UAC or the asun schools join the wac or wac asun. But with 6 wac and 6 asun the old wac-east plan works 6 west 6 east with as little crossover games as possible to limit travel cost. With a conference championship game. Instead of one huge footprint think two tight footprints in one fbs conference.

With the announcement that new ASUUN teams will play in the Big South this fall is there anything left of the collaboration with the WAC?

Where’s the announcement? What’d we miss?

I thought nothing was being shared until that press conference towards the end of the month?

Amos Faucette, FCS Fans Nation on Facebook.

ASUN NEWS!

Looks like the new ASUN members will be playing in the Big South this Fall.

I went back and did some checking. His information was based on The Tweet stating there was no agreement between the WAC and AsUn and no current plans to add one.

His take was this implied the new ASUN teams would play in the Big South this fall rather than play WAC schools based on an informal agreement. In other words, there is no final decision that has been announced. It’s conjecture based on known information.

Update.

All indications are that it's not dead at this point but the ASUN & WAC are having a hard time coming to an agreement because they want everything to be "under their name" if you will. Battle of the egos? It's definitely a cool moment for both schools.

I don't understand how the ASUN can ask for naming rights to the 21' season when there are more WAC football teams involved am I right?

Why not have the ASUN schools where ASUN patches on the uniform and field but have the WAC run it with their logos on the broadcast and on their teams?

Im sure there is more to this but when it doesn't seem to be to hard once you remove measuring sticks and ego.
