I understand that, but won't the ratings be skewed compared to past seasons? Lots of schedules were impacted.

So that's the scientific name that the medical community and general public use, huh? Do you call all viruses and diseases by their place of origin? Or just this one?

Good job, mod. Instead of keeping politics out of these threads, you encourage it and actually add to it. For the record, the items you mention are commonly known by the names you provided. COVID19 is commonly known and referred to as COVID19, not the China Virus.

It's kind of funny that it is racist to call COVID the Wuhan coronavirus or anything related to China but it is OK to call the new variants the UK variant and the South Africa variant.

Exactly. You said it was political, and I agree. There's a different board for political arguments and that would be a good place to continue this conversation. I'm here to read about NET rankings.

In the grand sceme of things does the name really matter? Life is to short fighting over what it is called. We all know where it came from. At this point in the pandemic, people can call it whaver they want. FinalFour was the one who made it an issue and SD pushed back, you joined in and then so did I. Now we are here.

This is not a free for all permission to start politics on the WAC the board. But it does need to be acknowledged that politics has been injected into about everything these days. Its the way things are. If it becomes an issue, I will deal with it.

As for the rankings having any value this year, that depends on whether or not you consider UC Santa Barbara (#61) or UC Riverside (#99) legitimate top 100 teams. At day's end on January 26th, that's where those two were.

You have to give them credit for being healthy enough to get games in and winning those games. Everyone is playing with the same issue. Should we discount Gonzaga and Baylor then? What should we do with Boise St and Drake? Give them credit for hooping at a high level in a tough time for all involved.
