General College Basketball Season Discussion 2020-21
I didn’t see a thread like this so if there is one feel free to combine it.

Watching the Wichita vs Memphis game and what on god’s grey earth is going on with the Memphis court?!? I feel horrible for Tiger fans having to look at that all season. Yuck!

I seem to remember Memphis having the city’s skyline on the floor, am I correct? I think they might have been the first to do that, which has been copied numerous times since.

As a long-time Tiger fan ... the graphics on the court are WAY too busy and excessive. However, I like the color scheme. Yes, I do seem to recall the Memphis skyline with the Hernando De Soto Bridge. I liked that.

Vanderbilt once had the Nashville skyline on its court.

Memphis has way too much prestige as a program to have a court like that. This is the school that hosted a February #1 vs #2 game not that long ago (2008) and played for a national title. That’s the type of program that needs to have a classic look.

I agree. But decisions regarding uniforms and court graphics are often made related to what the young men who play for a program want. Many of these players like "flash" and excess. It's part of being young. Memphis is a strong example of this approach.

I'm an Indiana fan and appreciate that the Hoosier uniforms still offer no last names on the backs. Bob Knight instituted that because, and due to his military background, he felt the surnames on uniforms "individualized" the team — as opposed to embracing the "collective whole" approach (i.e., like the military) he desired. I felt (and still feel) that is absurd. Just because a young man's surname is on his uniform, that does not mean he is not a team player. BUT, I like the unis with no surnames because it gives them a clean, elegant and streamlined look.

Less with appearances is typically better. It's the GQ mag theory — and I adhere to it.

Maybe we need an ugly floor thread! There's lots of competition

Cal State Bakersfield has to be near the top.

Oklahoma beats Kansas 75-68

Kansas three straight losses for first time in 8 years.

Cuse was ravaged by Covid and injury...they are actually much better than folks thought just a week ago. The game at UVA on Big Monday will tell a ton. I think they are an NCAA team...but are they a bubble team or much better?

I really enjoyed the UConn vs Creighton game. Two ranked teams battling out on the court. UConn really belongs in the Big East and I’m happy for them.

You guys put the wood to us pretty good too. Syracuse has clearly gotten better, I expect to see that reflected in NCAA projections and even rankings soon.

SMU defeats UCF 78-65.

I don't know why, but I expected UCF to be better than they are. They are IMO one of the more disappointing G5 teams so far this year.

FSU ....... 80

Clemson ... 50

Late.

Clemson was looking so good, and suddenly the wheels have fallen off. Not sure why, haven't followed them.

I don't understand how Florida St. lost to UCF. Talk about a fluke loss.

That's something interesting to think about it. For me I don't mind a school sitting out if they have a positive Covid case. Should a school sit out just to sit out to protect a autobid for themselves then they should be ineligible for the NCAA tournament. Should Houston sit out without a Covid case have the AAC consider the spot Houston would play as a forfeit. (Would the NCAA count a forfeit loss for the Net rankings and the like)

I'd be all for it, but I don't think the conference tourney's are going to be played at all.
