The coaching staff ULM has assembled is pretty incredible.

Alonzo Hampton seems like the kind of coach that can help anchor the kids from a culture perspective. Al Pogue was that for Troy before he went to Auburn. Hampton also seems like he's very passionate about ULM... if everything turns out to be a success over the next few years, I could see him becoming ULM's head coach. His persona and background fits it.

I really hope this works out for our conference. Imagine what other G5 conferences would say when their teams are getting their teeth knocked in by ULM! Talk about "perception". Imagine what some of those P5 schools might begin to think.

I hope there is more than a one horse, maybe a second limped horse race next year in the West. Texas State should improve from last season, and then 3 new coaches make it interesting, maybe 4 if Napier decides he wants to wear the puke orange of Tenn.

At least it appears to show a commitment to the football program that I think we have not seen before at ULM. Should make other members more optimistic about us being productive members. Got some pretty impressive name coaches in this conference now too. We maybe don’t get this staff without the success of other programs raising the perception of the SBC. Ready to do our part.

Pretty cool.

Tim's not actually a real graduate of ULM. He was there for his first 2-3 years and then finished out at LSU in broadcasting. He made most of his friends, memories, and connections at ULM though and, as he has said, ULM is HIS school. He attends as many ULM events as his schedule allows and he continues to live in Shreveport.

I think this is a great hire by ULM. Not just Bowden, but also landing Rich Rod as OC. I know I will be watching to see how this works out.

If that coach is 64, has had a history of turning around bad programs (or programs down), who wants one more shot to coach? Yes, I would. Most of us wanted a young, hot shot coach who was looking to get the hell out of Dodge for a bigger school. After watching Bowden's interviews, video's of his team meetings, and studying his history, I am very excited. He understands ULM's position. He went to Clemson, not to hang on, but to continue to learn. I guess he inherited the need to coach from his father and that is what is driving him.

We are very excited about the coaching staff. RichRod was just a perfect storm of events. He has the Bowden family connection. His son was looking to transfer. Ole Miss is still paying him. So, we get a QB to compete. His father, who was a pretty darn good coordinator at the highest level. And, depending on the contract, we might get away with little pay this year. DC is a young hot shot. Comes from a winning program (Boise St). Worked for and comes highly recommended by Brent Venables. Three of the position coaches all played at Clemson and were GAs at Clemson. Bowden worked with these guys for 2 years so he knows they work ethic and capability. For the first time, ULM has a staff that isn't made up of FCS coaches. We have a good mix of experience with a lot of youth, but youth that comes from successful programs. Viator was a good guy and, with the right staff, a successful coach. He just ran out of connections. Where he was taking GAs from FCS programs to give them their first position coach job, Bowden is getting former FBS players who were GAs at one of the top programs in the country. The only FCS coach we took was from a very successful program. Does that mean they are all going to be top tier? No. But, top to bottom, this appears to be the best coaching staff that ULM has seen.

One final thing about Bowden, he knows he has to raise money. Our previous coaches pretty much stuck to Xs and Os. Nice guys, one on one, but not one to press the flesh and work the crowd for cash. Bowden gets that and knows he has to go anywhere and everywhere to spread the word, preach the program and pry open wallets. He also has the personality to do that very thing. Already, we are seeing a change in responses from folks posting and several that have said they are starting to donate again or increasing their amount of donations. How much is hot air or how much that translates to is yet to be seen but every little bit helps.

I am ready for spring ball!!!

The one FCS coach we hired was a standout player at Florida and also a GA there before his FCS gig. We have an exciting staff, no doubt. Time will tell if it is actually enough. The buzz coming out of the Monroe area is the most I've ever heard for a ULM coaching staff.

Cracking up at Hawk Fang Karate by the way. Lol.
