Actually it was a BIG fan who broached the subject. But dont let the facts get in the way of your agenda. It usually is not a Syracuse fan who brings up the subject. Multiple fanbases have broached this subject over the years. There was at least a couple times that a UNC fan brought up the subject.
The BE may have been a regional conference, like the ACC, but its national appeal was unsurpassed. Especially during the last several years.

RE: Jim Boeheim's Successor
The Big East and the ACC are both historically great basketball conferences.

Of the first 8 schools to form the Big East (7 in 1979 and Villanova in 1980), 6 of them crashed the Final Four in the first ten years. It took UConn another 10 years to finally break through. Leaving BC as the only original Big East school to NOT get there.

That's impressive, especially considering just how strong college basketball was in that time period ... the 1980's were arguably the glory years of college basketball. When most of the mega stars stayed 4 years.

But the ACC was great during that time period too.

This argument is like saying getting a BJ from Farrah Fawcett is better than getting a BJ from Kate Jackson ... they're both hot Charlie's Angels.

This would be incredible. I was thinking Hopkins or Pikiell.
