Rock bottom!
"Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before you can dig your way back out of it."

That's a quote from Washington Football Team coach Ron Rivera, who announced Monday that the team was releasing troubled QB Dwayne Haskins ... and would start ODU alum Taylor Heinicke in this coming Sunday's win-and-get-into-the-playoffs season finale in Philadelphia if Alex Smith (sidelined with calf muscle injury) could not play.

Yesterday Heinicke led a 4th quarter comeback that fell 7 points short of tying the Carolina Panthers, after Haskins threw 2 picks and lost a fumble in the first three quarters.

Good luck Sunday, Taylor!!

F no! Screw the WFT. I need the Eagles to win, and my Giants to beat them Cowboys.

I want to be in the playoffs as a 6-10 team.

Here's to a crap performance from the WFT!

Win or lose stoked to see him have the opportunity....but ya. Don't think they have much of a chance against Brady and company. Unless their defense turns in the performance of their lives.

He played very well. A few mistakes as expected but overall very impressive performance and almost pulled off the W.

Yep. He looked good. He good be a solid backup quarterback which would be a very good career.

Taylor Heinicke has been in the league since 2015, has been in the reserve role for a few years already with 6 different teams. Anyone who can make an NFL roster is a good QB period and sometimes fate gives guys who have a fledging career another chance.

Matt Schaub just retired after 16 seasons and 95+ million in salary. I wish Taylor similar luck.

LA Tech had a QB like that --Luke McCown-- who played in the NFL for 14 seasons, almost all of it as a backup QB. Luke was a 4th round draft choice in 2004, and retired from the NFL in 2018. He made good living for many years, and only started 10 games in his career, I think. It is estimated that Luke earned $17.159 Million over his career, and only played in 62 games. So, he made an average of almost 277K per game that he played in.

Not bad work if you can get it. 03-lmfao

Anyway, Luke was incredible at LA Tech, where he threw for 12,666 yds, which is still 25th all-time in college football history. (Former Bulldog QB Tim Rattay is 80 yds ahead of him at #23 with 12,746 yds passing in only 3 yrs!) McCown started 43 out of 44 games of his college career, establishing school records for completions (1,088), attempts (1,827) and passing yards (12,994). His 88 touchdown passes ranked eighth-most in NCAA Division I-A history. He also had 11 rushing touchdowns. He still holds several NCAA Division I FBS records.

The best job in the NFL, for a player, is a back-up QB. Just hold the clipboard, get paid $millions, and don't have to worry about a 300lb truck smashing you in the ground.

Luke and his brother Josh perfected the role of solid backup QB and occasional starter in the NFL. Both of them had long NFL careers. Luke had some huge comeback wins at Tech against P5 teams. I'll never forget the Oklahoma State win in Shreveport and the Michigan State win at their place.

He would be further along if this hadn't happened and may have been a regular starter by now. I doubt the true story will ever come out.

Heinicke hurt his chances to land on the depth chart when he suffered a freak injury in July. Taylor needed foot surgery after kicking through a pane of glass in an exterior door while trying to break into his own house. Heinicke severed a tendon in the accident.Accident

One of the most fun college games to watch is ODU vs Georgia Southern in 2012. Heinicke was the starting QB for ODU (Jerrick McKinnon for GS) and that 2012 ODU team may be the best team ODU has ever fielded. I personally drove from Atlanta to Norfolk after work the Friday before that game.

Those 2 years of playoff games with GA So were awesome. Some of the best online mutually respectful smack talk ever too. =]

Whatever happened to Gus anyway? Hope he is doing already after his fall from grace.
