Duke Women’s Basketball Ends Season
We will see if others follow suit but the Duke Women’s basketball team has decided to end its season due to covid. No such announcement as to men’s basketball. Continuing to play will certainly be difficult. At what point do teams throw up their hands and say “enough”?

Indoor sports are much more dangerous than outdoors when it comes to the virus - and the number of new infections is at an all-time high, too. Basketball season will be very difficult to finish (again).

The women just got beat by Louisville by nearly 40 points.

Now it would be glorious if the rest of the ACC finished their season.

SU basketball has been shuttered since they played Buffalo last week. Several UB players had covid so SU had to postpone a couple of very winnable games, which I think will just be canceled. SU plays FSU January 6th. At least SU starting center will be back by then. He played 4 minutes in the first game of the season and got injured.

Why? Men's hoops at Duke are very profitable, women's hoops as they are everywhere now, are not. The question is if other schools follow suit in canceling women's sports without canceling men's sports at what point will Title IX claims be made?

Does this mean I doubt the legitimacy of COVID amid the women's hoops roster at Duke? Not at all. It is to say it is much easier to cancel a money loser than a money generating sport. Duke basketball is their bread and butter the way men's football is at Alabama or Notre Dame or Clemson.

This is not about money. I don't know the exact game, but Duke always has one. You really can't accept anything at face value from them.

I thought Coach K said a few weeks ago that the NCAA should cancel all spring sports. That's a far cry from him saying last season that we must absolutely play March Madness in 2021 for the good of the sport.

The only angle that I can see is that Coach K doesn't want to play because Duke will lose a lot of games this year. Otherwise I can't see why K would speak up.

Duke's ethics in sports are strongest when their teams are weakest. 04-cheers
They aren't who you think they are. Never have been.

If this season doesn't improve quickly, I expect that K's back is going to start having problems again.
Remember if K is not on the bench those losses don't count on his career won-loss record.
Only at Duke.

Indulge in all the preposterous theorizing you want about what happened. Here’s an account about what really happened. The players were concerned that the conference isn’t taking covid as seriously as it should. Duke is testing daily. Others aren’t. They think this is unsafe. In particular, they were exposed to covid by a Louisville team that wasn’t tested daily and they didn’t like that.

Also, the men’s game between Duke and Pitt that had been scheduled for tomorrow night has been cancelled due to covid at Pitt. This season is teetering on the edge. At what point does everyone throw up their hands and say this is unworkable?

I understand that Duke doesn't like where things seem to be heading. Many, many times over the last 75 years, when things were not going Duke's way, Duke always had another proposal that better suited Duke. If Duke does not like the ACC's approved testing regimen, I'm sure no one will stop your application to the Ivy League.

That complaint sounds B1G-commish-ish. If that's the problem, then end all non-conference games and move the ACC into miniature NBA bubbles.

If there is no NCAA tournament this year, you'll see a real blood bath in Division 1. That could be a literal death blow to the NCAA.

That's not a problem for a Duke or a Michigan. 05-stirthepot

Since there is a 10-14 day incubation period, testing every single day really doesn't do much to stop anything. It could still be 9 or more days before results show up. Blaming one school for their getting COVID is ridiculous. So no coach, player, stat keeper, manager, or people taking care of the arena had any exposure to anyone who might have it. Had to come from another team who obviously, themselves, got exposed to someone with it. There is no way to trace back to person zero -- so Duke should stop with the almost slanderous comments.
