What's up with Marshall?
The Herd went 7-0 out of the gate, including taking down #23 Ape State 17-7 along the way. They have lost their last two games to pretty horrible Rice (2-3) and UAB. Now, they are getting punched in the mouth by Buffalo in the Camellia Bowl.

With 5 minutes left in the first half, Buffalo has 185 yards of total offense to Marshall's 32 yards. Buffalo leads 10-zip. Looks like Marshall is putting together a drive now though late in the half.

What the heck happened to Marshall?

Nice drive by the Herd, Bulls leading 10-7 to end the half. But, as tough as they were in the first 2/3 of the season, seems like the Herd should be rolling Buffalo.

RE: What's up with Marshall?
Marshall falls, 17-10, losing their last three games of the season, after winning their first seven. Weird!

Buffalo is a solid team. Second place Mac vs second place Cusa and Mac prevails over their former conference mate. Marshall young qb looked better today than he has the last couple.

RE: What's up with Marshall?
Check out our stats before the Rice game and then after. There was a huge brawl that spilled out into the parking lot of the stadium. There is a huge amount of contention that has severed any semblance of team unity. Doc has lost the team and it is evident. Plus, Brenden Knox RB, Willie Johnson WR, Tavonte Beckett LB, and Josh Ball OT, and Brandon Drayton S declared for the NFL draft. I really don’t think it would’ve mattered if they had played.

Buffalo is NOT the same caliber team as Marshall. Buffalo is a good MACtion team. Prior to December, Marshall was in the league of Coastal, Liberty, and #23 App, who they beat 17-7. Buffalo is nowhere near that caliber.

Had they played the game prior to December, Marshall would likely have won by 2+ touchdowns. That is the point I am trying to make - Marshall was a very good, ranked, undefeated team before December. Then the wheels came off. Why?

Thunderstruck is right. Marshall's production fell off dramatically during December....

Average points scored in the seven games before December.... 37.4
Average points scored in the three games during December.... 7.1

Average points allowed before December.... 10.1
Average points allowed during December.... 19.7

Average passing yards before December.... 240.0
Average passing yards during December.... 139.0

Average rushing yards before December.... 205.6
Average rushing yards during December.... 88.3

Not only is that a tailspin of mammoth proportions, but consider that undefeated (7-0), nationally-ranked Marshall didn't just get upset in a squeaker by 1-2 Rice, they were skunked 20-zip!

I'm also sure that Thunderstruck is right that Doc Holliday has lost the team, and whether it was an event that occurred during the week of the COVID-canceled non-game the week before the Rice game or a general rebellion that has been brewing all season is apparently unclear outside of Marshall's coaches and players, but it is a shame to see a team crash and burn like that. It reminds me of Mikey's last season with us and our loss at Colgate when Houston had one foot out the door already.

Marshall definitely fell off and it could be the reasons stated a layoff or just one of those Covid season inexplicable things (Penn State Michigan LSU etc - check where Coastal Or even teams like San Jose State or Ball State were predicted to finish in their leagues going into the season.

I guess I’d counter by asking who Marshall played early- yeah they beat App but it turned out to be a down App team and they didn’t beat anyone else.

I don't know about that. In the first seven games of the season, Marshall took down 4 teams that wound up with winning records, including App, WKU, La Tech, and FAU by an average score of 28-12. Sounds pretty strong to me.

As for Appy having a down year, they only lost three close games, all to ranked teams Marshall, Coastal, and Louisiana.

Out of curiosity, what are the general opinions of OC Tim Cramsey? Is he well-liked? Do Marshall fans feel that he will be a HC someday?

(Since I found out while watching the game that he's part of the NH Mafia, I just want to see what his prospects are.)

Personally, I like him. The question is whether or not Doc gives him the reins. He (Doc) seemed to have pre-Rice and then the wheels fell off. If Doc retires, I think Lambert would get the nod but I wouldn’t object to Cramsey at all.
