Bowl game the crown on grand USM season

By Jason Smith

December 27, 2003

Southern Miss All-American linebacker Rod Davis chose not to enter last April's NFL Draft following his junior season for two very specific reasons:

1) To earn his degree in his senior season and 2) to lead Southern Miss to a Conference USA championship and this year's AXA Liberty Bowl.

"And I've done both, so anything else will be icing on the cake and the ending of a great career," he said.

Davis and the rest of the C-USA champion Golden Eagles arrived in Memphis from Hattiesburg on Friday afternoon and within a couple of hours were on the University of Memphis practice field for the team's first practice in four days.
