Virginia Tech losing pretty much their entire offense
Leading passer and second leading rusher Hendon Hooker enters the transfer portal.

Leading rusher Khalil Herbert enters the NFL Draft

That's a little over half of VT's passing yardage and two thirds of their rushing yardage leaving from an already lackluster offense.

Call another press conference. That'll fix it.

This is the second time HH has entered the Portal. He and Quincy Patterson did it last year and Fuente talked them out of leaving. I'd like to have HH back. Before the Clemson game, he was considered one of our best players. I can't see how that much has changed even including his bizarre cold convulsions and 2 fumbles.

Don’t be surprised if VT offensive lineman, Bryan Hudson, a former 4 star, ends up at Louisville. Rumors started a couple of weeks ago on the Louisville boards about him leaving VT and possibly coming to UofL. Time will tell.

It tough to replace a successful coach.

Carolina went through 4 coaches until someone realized the only way to get back was to hire Mack back.
Texas, Florida State, Miami, Southern Cal, Notre Dame all went through long down cycles after successful coaches.

Virginia Tech will continue to lose players and may have to change coaches several times before they can get back to where they want to be.
You can't get a new guy and keep the same beat up lunch box. The new guy has to be strong enough to make everybody forget the past and embrace the future. But it's a tough task. Even Jimbo, a really good coach and even after a national championship, couldn't escape the Bobby Bowden shadow.
It's going to take a while in Blacksburg.

Honestly, I didn't expect most of those guys to be back anyway, although the NCAA rule granting an extra year gave me some hope. Herbert is a senior and, in fact, will play in the Senior Bowl. If he asked me straight up if he should stay at VT or go into the NFL, I'd have to admit he should go pro. I just wish he had come to Blacksburg sooner!

Rumor is that Nester (4* OL) is going to transfer to WVU to be closer to home. He and Hudson (4* OL) will be missed.

There are still some quality QBs, so I don't think HH or QP will be missed all that much. The biggest problem on offense (IMO) remains inadequate WR play. (That and some questionable gameplanning and/or playcalling in some games).

I want Beamer back. That is, Shane Beamer.

Blackbsburg and the NRV are an acquired taste. Anything that makes Clemson SC, look cosmopolitan is going to have a problem with some recruits. Personally I really liked most of the NRV - its great for young kids. That in itself if not a bonus for late teens and early 20's.

RE: Virginia Tech losing pretty much their entire offense
There is definitely a pecking order for 18-22 year old heterosexual males when it comes the various ACC campuses.

The first element is girls, girls, girls.
The second element is paid girls, hookers, strippers, etc.
The third element is a beach
The fourth element is climate
The fifth element is access to light or slightly illegal drugs
The sixth is an administration that will sweep things under the rug
The seventh is a local media that is enabling

1. Miami is number one - hands down
2. Atlanta, and Boston are tied for 2nd - party cities
4. Pittsburgh - too many left over Germans to be a complete party city
5. Louisville - a party town
6. Clemson and UNC - players treated like Gods, but nearly all coeds willing to submit
8. FSU - Jamies ruined them
9. Syracuse and Durham - a lot of ugly girls, a lot of un-fun yankees - you can get shot with a low caliber gun
11. Raleigh and Charlottesville, total suburban boredom - great if you are 35 years old with three small children - this is where you go when you get married
13. Winston-Salem - worse than Raleigh and Charlottesville
14. VT - Blacksburg - just Winston-Salem up the mountain

The point of this is that it affects your ability to recruit some kids. Not all kids, but some kids. Alabama for example imports the girls necessary to keep Tuscaloosa interesting,
