Liberty QB, Willis has tested positive for COVID
It's really a shame for all involved. I'm sure CC would want both teams at 100%. The line jumped to 10 for CC. We'll struggle to move the ball. Our backup is very different from Willis. More of a drop back passer and the results haven't been great when he's in the game.

It’s absolutely a shame, because now when we win, like we always were going to, Liberty will have a cop out.

Make no mistake this really hurts for the entire Sun Belt. It really is a terrible shame. Any chance for a retest like Saban did?

I don't agree that it does.

If Cinci goes undefeated, they get the Access Bowl no matter what. But if the AAC champ has a loss and Coastal goes undefeated it's not going to matter whether Willis played or not. Coastal would have 2 wins over a Sun Belt team that beat a Big 12 team while Tulsa has a loss to a lesser Big 12 team.
It sucks for Liberty, but it's a boon to Coastal.

Oh, and Game Day is still coming also.

There will be no cop out from fans, players or coaches. Teams are made up of more than an individual and most teams face player loss throughout the season. We’ll hopefully play our best, with great effort, with or without specific starters. With a win we’ll celebrate and thank the Beach Chickens for a competitive game. If we lose, we congratulate CCU on a good victory, and wait on a possible bowl invitation. Either way, it’s been an incredibly successful year for the Liberty Flames... and the CCU Beach Chickens.

In the grand scheme, you're right. For the Gameday in and of itself, it may not look as exciting as we know the Sun Belt to be to the viewer who isn't familiar. Who knows, maybe Liberty makes a game of it.

That's a big blow for Liberty.

Coastal could have players out for COVID also. You never know until Thursday/Friday/Saturday arrive.

It's good for Coastal, because a win against Liberty looks good. If it's a blowout win, then the pollsters are going to be very impressed, despite Willis being out.

Looks like the rumors are that Liberty has more Covid issues. I guess we'll see what comes out over the next day or so.

They can retest since they aren’t in a conference

They don’t have the same protocols as a conference team would

Is this an NCAA rule? If so, its dumb. If not, they can enact their own rule however they want and retest.

So LU has routinely been testing at P5 standards, as mandated in their case by the ACC, in order to be able to play them.

Are you saying they can’t do the same this week because it’s just Coastal? There’d have to be language in the contract, imposed by us, that literally restricted them to what? Our level of one-and-done testing?

Can you expand on why they can’t? I’d like to think we aren’t preventing it...

All I can say is, "Ouch"! Covid 19 rears it's ugly head yet again in college football. I hope this isn't widespread on Liberty's or anyone's team for that matter. What a buzzkill.

Considering BYU by all reports is ready to fly to Conway on a moment's notice to play if Liberty cancels, I'm betting Coastal is probably happy either way.

Rumor is BYU, has already booked hotel rooms, this is crazy. I am happy one way or the other. I would rather play BYU if Liberty is not healthy.

Hopefully Coastal and Liberty drop their opening FCS games next year and get on the 2021 and 2022 schedule. It is a good rivalry, and something I wanted to see. But I don't want a wounded duck, I wanted to beat Liberty at full strength

If Coastal plays BYU, and beats them, that will cause a massive shakeup when it comes to the CFP Committee deciding who to give the NY6 bid to, assuming Coastal goes undefeated and beats Louisiana.

At that point, it'd be tough to put Cincy in for a NY6 slot over a Coastal with potential wins over BYU, Louisiana (twice), App State, and a P5 (even though it's an awful Kansas, they still like P5 wins versus no P5 wins). Not to mention wins over some other SBC bowl-bound teams.

No joke, they probably beat Coastal, but I don't think that means the Chants should shy away from the chance to play them...especially at home.

I agree. BYU is a very good team, not sure exactly how good though. Would have loved to see them in an eight team playoff. I think BYU's size has been a great advantage over the teams on their schedule who are all much smaller, and that would include Coastal if they play. That advantage would not be there vs Alabama or Clemson.

Yes...reports are that BYU is ready to take over....everything that Liberty has booked including the same hotel rooms even the pre-game meals, etc. BYU wasn't willing to do this hypothetical with teams from the Pac 12 but now sees the advantage of this College Game Day situation and playing a ranked team that looks to happen. The whole point is for Coastal Carolina to to keep the College Gameday and have a relevant game....BYU checks both boxes. I do sympathize with Liberty but one can only play with the cards dealt and having backup plans (like games) are mandatory in this day and age. A crazy year this is. It's hard to keep up from day to day...sometimes even hour by hour.
