Remaining Undefeated, 1-loss, and Winless Teams Before Week 14
Teams with 1st Loss Week 13:
Oregon
Northwestern
Kent State
Nevada

Teams with 2nd Loss Week 13
Toledo
Maryland
Utah

Teams with 1st Win Week 13:
Utah State
Stanford
Penn State

Maximum number of Undefeated Teams at the End of the Regular Season:
10: BYU, Coastal Carolina, Alabama, Notre Dame, Cincinnati, Marshall, Ohio State, San Jose State, Washington/USC/Colorado, and Buffalo/Western Michigan

Percent of Undefeateds with 1st Loss:
Week 1: 6.5% (5 of 77)
Week 2: 18.1% (13 of 72)
Week 3: 13.6% (8 of 59)
Week 4: 33.33% (17 of 51)
Week 5: 35.3% (12 of 34)
Week 6: 22.7% (5 of 22)
Week 7: 7.5% (5 of 67) -Added 50 teams to list.
Week 8: 24.2% (15 of 62)
Week 9: 12.8% (6 of 47)
Week 10: 31.7% (13 of 41)
Week 11: 21.4% (6 of 28)
Week 12: 22.7% (5 of 22)
Week 13: 23.5% (4 of 17)

Week 13 Thoughts:
-Not a good week for the Big Ten's playoff bowl hopes. Northwestern lost in a surprise to Michigan State. Ohio State saw its 2nd gamed canceled (one more and absent a rule change or deciding to forfeit a game) and the Buckeyes will not be eligible for the Big Ten championship despite their place in the standings. If the Buckeyes aren't eligible, Indiana is almost certainly going after their win vs. Maryland this week (although Indiana has now lost their starting quarterback).

-Notre Dame beat North Carlina which ups the odds they go into the ACC Championship undefeated by a lot. Very real chance of 2 ACC teams in the playoff bowls if Clemson beats Notre Dame in championship.

-Not directly involved with any of these lists, but a quick shout out to Iowa State. They beat Texas and are more likely than not to be going to the Big 12 Championship.

-Oregon losing the Civil War to Oregon State is a very bad things for the PAC-12. There are other undefeateds, but Oregon was the highest and gaining ground would be helped a lot by having multiple undefeated ranked teams play each other.

-In the Group of 5 NY6 bowl bid, we see little change this week, but the Mountain West is now down to just San Jose State undefeated. I think that is their only shot this year.

Week 14 Thoughts:
1-loss Texas A&M @ Auburn: This is Texas A&M best chance to lose a game. They don't have many left and are a strong playoff bowl contender if they win out.

1-loss Liberty @ undefeated Coastal Carolina: Two of the biggest surprises of the season. They have 1 last second loss between them. Liberty is competing to end their newly fermented FBS status with their best season by a long shot. Coastal Carolina is still in contention for the NY6 with some help.

Undefeated Ohio State @ Michigan State: Playing this game at all might actually be a bigger deal than winning for the Buckeyes. Fail to play and by existing Big Ten rules, the Buckeyes won't be eligible for the Big Ten Championship.

Remaining Undefeated Teams:

OP, since USC/Colorado don't play each other anymore, I think that means that they could both theoretically finish undefeated, correct?

RE: Remaining Undefeated, 1-loss, and Winless Teams Before Week 14
When all FBS teams were playing at least 12 games, the undefeated or 1 loss distinction was the major predictor for the CFP selection. In 2020, I believe that the combination of number of games played, with number of losses, will be the determining predictors.

There is going to be a wide disparity in the number of games played amongst FBS teams. For example, the CFP playoff committee will have to compare teams with 6 or fewer games versus teams with 9 or more games. I would be surprised if the CFP committee even considers teams for the playoffs if they don’t eventually play at least 6 games. Ohio State is currently ranked 4th, but I expect that they will lose some support with their most recent cancellation. Similarly one-loss teams probably don’t stand a chance for the CFP unless they are expected to play at least 9 games.

If CCU can beat Liberty, they should be good to finish undefeated. What a season!!!

Correct in the PAC-12. Thank you. Should have looked for that. Will correct next week.

Not officially Civil War but I'll always think of it as that.

BYU/Coastal big for both schools.
