opt outs
Texas has lost its top DB Caden Sterns and the #2 OT in the country Samuel Cosmi opting out for preparing for the NFL. Texas is a very long shot at making the Big 12 title game, needing lots of unlikely help (OU to lose to WVU and Baylor and OSU to lose to either Baylor or TCU).

Oklahoma St., who is still in the running (they only need ISU to lose to WVU or OU to lose 1), has lost Jenkins, their top OT.

Have a feeling this will become more and more common late in the season, not just in bowl games. Teams will likely be pretty stripped if they aren't in a major bowl this season.

There need to be penalties for dropping out before the bowls in non-pandemic years or this will just get out of hand. This year, ok. Its a fluky year.

What could possibly be the penalty? They are student-athletes, seems a player could just say they are quitting football to focus on school - what could the university say? What if the player claims injury - most football players are injured by the end of the year - what would the school say? There is no realistic penalty.

Repay the current year's scholarship if they don't claim injury. They obviously can't do much about the injury claims.
